Survivor has been a staple of the CBS network, and even after two decades since its premiere, it continues to keep everyone entertained. The show has always tested both the mental and physical capacity of its contestants, and being a part of it remains a dream for many. However, if someone thinks that getting on the show requires major survival skills, they are very much mistaken.

In an interview, Jeff Probst discussed the show’s selection process and addressed a major misconception that has surrounded Survivor for years. His revelation has undoubtedly left fans shocked, as it is starkly different from what they had believed all along.
According to Jeff Probst, Survivor auditions are easier than they think
For the last two decades, Survivor has remained one of the longest-running and biggest reality shows out there. Along with this, host Jeff Probst has always been a proud face of the series, and with the ongoing Season 48, excitement is high. However, given its popularity, there has always been a major misconception that getting selected as a contestant requires following a difficult process.

Probst addressed this in an interview via CBS Mornings and detailed why auditioning for the show is not as hard as what people have made it. In the same conversation, the showrunner talked about what makes a strong audition tape. Apparently, the question was asked by the show’s cameraman named Scott, who was a big fan of the show.
On this, Probst said, “Great question, because everyone thinks it has to be some great audition tape.” He then addressed Scott and said, “We could do it right now. All you need to say, ‘Hey, my name is Scott. This is who I am.’”
His answer detailed that many people think that the tape needs to be something elaborate, but in reality, the process is much simpler. According to him, a person should be more authentic, and a good take doesn’t need special effects or a script. The participants just need to introduce themselves naturally and showcase their true personality.
Probst added that honesty was key for a good tape and that they need to be truthful about who they are, even if it’s as simple as recording themselves in a car.
Jeff Probst talks about the showmances that happen in Survivor
Just like any other reality show, if a number of contestants are left together in a place, romantic feelings are bound to happen. But Jeff Probst was quick to add that when it comes to Survivor, he never casts players with the hope of creating romantic storylines via Entertainment Weekly.

This was raised especially during Season 46 of the show, as the previous seasons had showmances, but this season lacked that element.
In past seasons, romances between Frannie Marin and Matt Blankinship and Dee Valladares and Austin Li Coon have kept the audience entertained with their connection. But in the 46th season, despite having close friendships, there hasn’t been a similar romance angle. In the same interview, Probst added:
We never, at least as long as I’ve been around as executive producer, we’ve never cast anybody because they were single and might mingle.
While he enjoys when relationships naturally develop on the show, there’s no influence from his or the production’s side while selecting players.
You can watch all the seasons of Survivor on Hulu.
