Felix Kwakye Ofosu has assured Ghanaians that President John Dramani Mahama’s administration will maintain the smallest government size in the country’s history.
Speaking to the media, he dismissed claims that the president had appointed an excessive number of ministers and hidden some under the presidency.
“Let the records be set straight that any claim President Mahama has appointed 100 ministers and is hiding some in the presidency is blatantly false,” he stated.
According to him, the total number of ministers stands at 56, significantly lower than what the previous government had.
He further compared the current administration’s approach to appointments with that of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, pointing out that the number of presidential staffers and political appointees had been drastically reduced.
“We are in the process of considering support staff, and we can state emphatically that it will be nowhere near half of what the NPP did when they were in power,” he added.
Kwakye Ofosu highlighted the financial impact of maintaining a lean government, emphasizing the savings that will be made.
“If in the past there were 126 ministers and you reduce the number to 60, that is 66 less Land Cruisers that you have to buy.
“We all know the price of a Land Cruiser today,” he noted, stressing that cutting down on government size would significantly ease the financial burden on the nation.
According to him, the administration is committed to ensuring efficiency while reducing government expenditure, which will ultimately benefit Ghanaians.
