Secrets were shattered, questions were answered, and the biggest shock of all, turns out, Severance wasn’t just some corporate brainchild. It might just be the work of none other than Harmony Cobel herself!

Harmony Cobel is the real inventor of Severance!

Lumon stealing ideas from kids? Now that’s a new low. Episode 8, Sweet Vitriol, takes Severance Season 2 in an unexpected, icy direction, literally. The episode focuses entirely on Harmony Cobel’s chilling return to Salt’s Neck, a town once thriving with a Lumon ether factory but now left to rot after the company drained it dry.

As Cobel walks through her eerie hometown, fans get a deeper look into her past, including her devoutly Kier-worshipping Aunt Sissy and her late mother Charlotte, who rejected the cult. Fans also learn that Cobel was part of the prestigious Wintertide Fellowship, the same program Miss Huang is currently completing at Lumon.

But the real bombshell drops in the final moments that has people talking. Cobel finally finds what she came for, an old notebook filled with brain wave graphs, severance chip sketches, and classified designs. Flipping through the pages, she snaps at Sissy, who doesn’t want to belive a word that is coming out Cobel’s mouth,

MINE!!!!!!! MY DESIGNS!!! Circuit Blueprint, Base Code, OTC, Glasgow Block — all of it!

And just like that, the truth is out, Jame Eagan didn’t invent severance after all. It was Cobel’s brainchild all along. But thanks to the cult of Kier, she was robbed of credit, because she was fooled into believing it was knowledge for all.

Episode 8 hit fans with some major revelations, ones that will take time to sink in. And now that the truth is out, Patricia Arquette, the powerhouse behind Ms. Cobel, has shared her thoughts on the game-changing episode.

In a chat with Decider she said,

The conversation with Cobel is how much did she have to do with the original chip? And some of that was a surprise. And how exactly did that come about? It’s more like they were all working on this thing, but they were stumped. And she’s the one who kind of brought it together and it was always spoken about as it was this manifestation of Kier’s dream — in current reality and with new technology — what would that look like?

She continued saying,

She’s in the structure of this organization that will never give you personal credit. Everything’s for the greater good. It’s unseemly to take credit, We see this in echoes of different structures, different religions, different things throughout history. And that’s part of her thing, she will never get acknowledged the way she feels she should by this organization.

So far it can be understood that Harmony Cobel is done playing Lumon’s game, she’s ready to turn against them for good. She’s spent years hiding secrets, bending rules, and bottling up all her negative feelings against the company. But now, her hate seems to have finally reached its breaking point. Cobel is now ready to burn it all down.
