Blue Bloods’ Dylan Walsh Lands Thriller Role After Show’s Cancellation: ‘Its About Survival’

Dylan Walsh has found his next gig following the cancellation of CBS’ beloved Blue Bloods after season 14.

The actor, who played Mayor Peter Chase in the crime drama series from 2019 to 2024, has signed on for a thriller called The Highest Stakes.

“In The Highest Stakes, five strangers are invited to a high-stakes poker game, but as the night unfolds and buried secrets come to light, they discover the game isn’t about winning – it’s about survival,” per Deadline.

In addition to Dylan, 61, the film will also star Seth Green and Charlie Weber. Tony Dean Smith is set to direct.

“Like every great poker game, this is a battle of wits, deception, and survival,” producer Steven Paul said of the project. “We have assembled a tremendous cast, but in this game, the house doesn’t just win – it decides who makes it out alive.”

The movie is set to release sometime next year. An official premiere date has not yet been announced.

Blue Bloods' Dylan Walsh Lands Thriller Role After Show's Cancellation

Dylan appeared in Blue Bloods from season 10 to season 14, the final season. In the series finale, his character was shot by a gang member while at a ceremony unveiling a historic landmark in New York City. Tom Selleck‘s Frank Reagan then visited the mayor in the hospital, where he was told that it was up to him to take down the gang with the NYPD.

“I’m handing you the keys. You’re driving. Get us out of this,” Peter told Frank while sitting in the hospital bed with a sling on his arm.

Eventually, the Reagan crew was able to take down the gang leaders, but there was one casualty during the show’s final episode. Officer Luis Badillo was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a carjacking. Later on, Peter is seen attending his funeral with the rest of the Reagans and the NYPD. His character was not present at the final Reagan family dinner.

Months after the series finale aired, it was announced that the Blue Bloods universe would be expanding with a new show starring Donnie Wahlberg currently titled Boston Blue. It has not yet been revealed if any of the original show’s characters will make appearances in Boston Blue.

For those who are missing Blue Bloods, Donnie, 55, presented fans with the opportunity to sit at the Reagan family dinner table after taking the item from the show’s set and putting it in his family’s Wahlburgers restaurant in St. Charles, Illinois, for a limited time.
