Hollywood’s entertainment industry has been the hub of quite a few fiascos over the course of the decades, catching a lot of people in affairs they should have not been involved in the first place. Surprisingly enough, the list of names for the same included the names of Michael Keaton, Kim Basinger, and even Jon Peters.
Apparently, there was a time when Keaton, the renowned fan-favorite iteration of the Dark Knight, was allegedly infatuated with his co-star and Academy Award winner Kim Basinger. But in the middle of this love story came Peters, the renowned producer of Batman, who ended up sleeping with Basinger, leading to Keaton allegedly being furious at them.
Jon Peters infuriated Michael Keaton by swooping Kim Basinger from under his nose
Back in the day, in the late 1980s, Michael Keaton‘s Batman was in the works, but a lot more was going on on the sets of the flick than just the shooting of the masterpiece. This is because an apparent love triangle had formed on the sets of the said superhero flick involving Keaton, Kim Basinger, and producer Jon Peters, as the latter revealed.
As it turns out, even though Basinger was married to Ron Snyder at the time, her casting in the 1989 film as Vicki Vale had both Peters and Keaton being more than just attracted to her. And, for the record, even the fan-beloved portrayer of the Caped Crusader was married at the time to his then-wife Caroline McWilliams.
However, before Keaton could shoot his shot at the actress, Peters ended up meddling in between, swooping the L.A. Confidential actress right from under his nose. And the Spider-Man: Homecoming star, for one, was allegedly anything but happy about Peter hooking up with Basinger when he was the one who liked her.
As the producer for the movie claimed during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
Michael Keaton had the eye for Kim Basinger. I remember he got mad at me when she and I hooked up. He felt rejected ’cause he was the star. He’s Batman. Yeah. I was a hairdresser who could talk to women. We lived together on the set. She helped me write the third act.
That is, of course, as complicated as could get, considering how Keaton was still married to McWilliams at the time for him to be furious with Peters for developing a romantic relationship with Basinger. But the pair ended up divorcing a year later in 1990, with Caroline McWilliams passing away two decades later in 2010, so that’s that too.
Jon Peters shared what led to him connecting with Kim Basinger
While he was the one to end up sleeping with highly in-demand Kim Basinger, Jon Peters connecting with her is a story epic on a whole other level. As it turns out, the actress’ then-husband Snyder, who was a makeup artist, was abusive toward his wife, and Peters’ finding a connection to the actress started from his defending Basinger against Snyder.
As the producer of 1989’s Batman continued to allege about the Never Say Never Again actress during his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “Kim had a husband who was abusive. And one day I grabbed him, and she connected with me because I protected her, and we became friends and ended up having a big affair.“
Fortunately for Peters, this big affair ended up working out in his favor, for Basinger left her then-husband Snyder in 1989, after being married for around nine years, since 1990—reportedly because of the producer. On the other hand, per Peters’ accounts, Keaton had to go home empty-handed due to the producer’s sweeping the actress away, so that’s that as well.
