Over 19 million viewers tuned in at Christmas to watch Jason’s final appearance in Gavin & Stacey, hoping to finally uncover the truth behind the infamous fishing trip with Bryn (Rob Brydon).
But now Robert has left one mystery behind for another.
The actor is set to appear in season 12 of Father Brown as William Fitzgibbon, a respected Professor of Maths at Gloucester University.
However, things take a dark turn when William finds himself at the centre of a murder investigation.
In the episode, which airs today at 2 pm on BBC One, William’s life is thrown into chaos when fellow sewing circle member Catherine Glover (Carlyss Peer) is found stabbed to death.
With tensions running high, Chief Inspector Sullivan (Tom Chambers) quickly identifies William as the prime suspect.
But, as always, Father Brown isn’t convinced and sets out to uncover the real culprit.
Alongside Robert, the episode features a stellar supporting cast, including Nicola Stephenson as his wife Martha, Beyond Paradise’s Felicity Montagu as battleaxe Judith Skelton, and Naomi Radcliffe as Violet Goodfellow, the wife of Sergeant Goodfellow (John Burton).
Viewers might also recognise Robert from his roles in Grace, Wolf Hall, and Vera.
Recently he made headlines for donating a signed copy of the Gavin & Stacey finale script to charity.
Father Brown has been a staple on BBC One since 2013.
Robert’s guest appearance is set to be a must-watch as fans look forward to seeing him step into the world of whodunnits.
