If there is a name in the music industry that is synonymous with ‘genius’, it is most definitely Hans Zimmer. The film score composer whose face you might not have seen, but whose work you have certainly heard. The Dark Knight, Inception, Dune, the man has done it all and how! Basically, any film Hans Zimmer touches turns into gold, thanks to his unreplicable magic. With Oscars and Grammys to his name, he doesn’t just make music; he reinvents it.

Given the fact that Hans Zimmer has worked with huge franchises before – No Time to Die, Wonder Woman, Pirates of the Caribbean, and more – it is a little surprising that he hasn’t collaborated with Marvel Studios.
Why Hans Zimmer turned Marvel down

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been dominating the industry for decades now, and let’s be honest – its background music hits HARD. Whether it’s The Avengers theme or the final battle song in Thor: Ragnarok, the music makes us feel every moment.
Now, the question is, why haven’t Hans Zimmer and the MCU come together to create epic greatness? Well, as far as the composer is concerned, the timing hasn’t ever been right. Well, that and the fact that he’s kind of over the whole superhero stuff.
During his appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Zimmer was asked if the MCU ever came calling and he replied,
They have, they have. It was always, um, timing wasn’t great. And really quite honestly, I mean, I’m looking for other things right now…I’ve done the trifecta. I’ve done Batman, Superman, Spider-Man and Wonder Woman.
Zimmer then joked, “What do you want me to do? Some of the minor characters?”
Zimmer has previously worked in Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight trilogy, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman 1984, Man of Steel, Dark Phoenix and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The last two are the closest he’s come to composing for Marvel. It looks like he is feeling the superhero fatigue, too.
What is Hans Zimmer’s best work yet?

With such insane titles under his belt, it is difficult for fans to pick just one out of the lot and put it on the top of the pyramid. However, for Zimmer, the answer is easy – Interstellar.
Nolan’s epic sci-fi and a timeless classic, Interstellar is easily one of the finest works to have ever come out of cinema. Zimmer worked as the music producer for the film, returning to collaborate with Nolan after The Dark Knight and Inception.
The crazy part is that Zimmer wasn’t given a script or any plot details to work with. He came up with the score all by himself after Nolan handed him a piece of paper giving him a vague idea of what he was up for.
If you’ve always wanted to know the score he prefers over everything else he has created, Zimmer finally answered the question himself. He stated (via The Playlist),
People always ask me what’s my favorite score and I keep avoiding answering the question. And how about I don’t avoid it this time? I’m going to tell you that the first, the favorite score that I’ve ever written, I think, is ‘Interstellar.’ Or, I haven’t written my favorite score yet. So, maybe that’s the better answer.
The score was nominated at the Oscars for Best Original Score and the Grammys for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media. While he didn’t win either of the two, he sure did win our hearts!
Interstellar is available to watch on Paramount+ and Netflix.
