‘You literally get the most interesting Straw Hat’: There’s No Excuse for Oda in One Piece How He Knowingly Destroyed the Best Character

The question about the best-written character in One Piece is something that has confused fans for years. While there have been many supporting characters with an amazing storyline, they do not fit the central storyline like the members of the Straw Hat Pirates, and thus, every One Piece fan wants to know who might be the best character within the crew aside from Luffy.

Since the beginning, the two contenders who have been at the top of this list are Roronoa Zoro and Vinsmoke Sanji, the two wings of the Future Pirate King in One Piece. And while Zoro is certainly a great character, Sanji does not fall behind at all. In fact, there are some moments where Sanji outshines Zoro but is often pulled back because of one aspect of his personality.

This aspect is the pervert gag that has been embedded in Sanji’s identity since he was introduced in One Piece. Sanji arguably would have been the best character in the series, but for some reason, Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, decided to introduce this personality trait and knowingly limit Sanji’s potential within the narrative.

Sanji’s capability of becoming the best One Piece character

Sanji was first introduced in the story in the Baratie Arc of One Piece. He then joined the Straw Hat Pirates as their cook, but his skills as a fighter were utilized even more, considering the dangerous adventure that was ahead of the crew. And through this journey, fans got to know more about Sanji’s personality and his nature as a One Piece character.

He is a kind soul who has seen big struggles in his past and thus respects everyone’s efforts around him. Not only that, he is extremely calm even in the face of danger, and his incredible skills as a fighter help him win against some of the most powerful enemies in One Piece. Also, he has a secret persona in the form of Mr. Prince, who is quite popular among his admirers.

There are also some comedic aspects connected with his character, like his rivalry with Zoro, his anger towards Luffy eating everything, and his behavior towards the female characters of One Piece. It is one of his biggest personality traits that has been a big reason for debate among the fans of the series.

Eiichiro Oda destroyed Sanji’s character with the perverted gag

Sanji’s behavior towards women in One Piece is so extreme that it feels perverted in more than one way. There have been many instances within the story where the way he acts towards the female character has made fans uncomfortable, and thus, it has affected his popularity a lot. If this trait had not been a part of his identity, he would have been the best character.

In Sanji’s case, it has become so extreme that it is negatively affecting his character in a big way. This style of Eiichiro Oda is quite contentious and, thus has been questioned many times.

Sanji is one of the few characters who has the potential to become the best-written character in One Piece. From his past narrative to his continuous development, his character was perfect in almost every way, but Oda destroyed it by giving him one of the most controversial personality traits that will be associated with his character until the end.

One Piece is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
