However, Berry and Hunt have yet to tie the knot and a source explained one possible reason. The source claimed that Berry didn’t want to end up in another failed marriage and it was the fear that was stopping her from committing to Hunt.
Berry has been through three marriages and a number of other relationships that did not end well for her. She was married to baseball player David Justice, singer-songwriter Eric Benét, and French actor Olivier Martinez. She has a daughter with French-Canadian model Gabriel Aubry and a son with Martinez.
Fear of another divorce is stopping Halle Berry from committing to Van Hunt
Halle Berry is reportedly not ready to marry her boyfriend of five years Van Hunt, despite their five years of loving relationship. She and Hunt met in 2020 and the relationship couldn’t have come at a better time for her. She told Marie Claire that she started figuring herself around that time. Seeing this, her friend, who is also Hunt’s brother, introduced them to each other.
She shared that she and Hunt quickly connected and she went on to claim that it was the first time she was madly in love with someone before having a physical relationship. She shared with Marie Claire:
It was the first time I was madly in love before I had sex. That has never happened to me, ever. Talk about one of those life-changing, beautiful experiences. It was magical, just magical. It took me a minute to get it right. But the nature of the way this happened, I have a real belief that this is it. This is my person.
Berry even told the outlet that she hoped to tie the knot with him in the future. However, they didn’t go through with that plan and it doesn’t appear that they are anywhere closer to marrying each other. A source explained to OK! Magazine about why the couple is probably delaying their marriage. They shared:
Halle doesn’t want to make another mistake and end up in divorce court. Van’s so easygoing and great with her two kids, but the idea of saying ‘I do’ only to have the marriage crash and burn scares her.
According to the source, it might just not be the fear of divorce that is stopping Berry. The source also pointed out that Berry has a lot of stake when it comes to the marriage as her reported net worth is $90 million against Hunt’s $10 million net worth. The source shared, “She’s happier than she’s been in a long time. Why rock the boat?”
Halle Berry’s son did a commitment ceremony for her and Van Hunt
The closest Halle Berry came to a commitment with Van Hunt is her son Maceo’s little commitment ceremony. It appears that her children approve of Hunt as she shared a story of how Maceo came up with the ceremony for the couple in the back seat of their car.
She shared that she and Hunt were fighting back tears at the moment as it was a very real moment for the two of them. She shared in an interview with AARP:
My son, Maceo, of his own volition did this little commitment ceremony for us in the back seat of the car. I think he finally sees me happy, and it’s infectious. It was a very real moment for all of us. I teared up, Van was fighting back tears. Even Maceo knew he’d said something poignant. It meant a lot to us.
Berry also had her share of relationships ending on bad terms. One of her celebrity ex-boyfriends from Hollywood allegedly abused her and punctured her eardrum in 1991. It caused her to lose 80% of her hearing in her left ear (via PEOPLE). She also had a long custody battle with Gabriel Aubry over their daughter. They eventually reached an amicable custody agreement.
