NCIS has played a huge role in revolutionizing the crime drama genre with its gripping stories and stellar ensemble. While Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly reign supreme, Sean Murray as Timothy McGee is not far behind with his acting chops. He has a career spanning more than three decades and has been part of the show for nearly 20 years now.

With the show still ongoing, Murray is also pretty certain that it might just be the final chapter of his acting career.
NCIS might just be the end game for actor Sean Murray

Sean Murray hit the golden jackpot when he got on board the crime drama NCIS in 2003 during Season 1, Episode 7. He played the role of Special Agent Timothy McGee for almost the entire run of the show, which adds up to 22 seasons as of 2024. This is obviously a huge deal, as such longevity is pretty rare in television history. But for Murray, his love for the crime drama is undeniable, and he doesn’t even hide his excitement for the show.
When the 20th season aired in 2022, the actor took to his Instagram page and shared his anticipation with the caption, “Here we go again, baby.”
This would be a rare achievement for anyone, but for the actor, it almost didn’t happen. When he first appeared on the show, it was only supposed to be a one-time guest appearance. However, as he mentioned in an interview with Studio 10, the show later needed a filler storyline and decided to bring him back for a few more episodes.
What also worked in his favor was his strong bond with the entire cast, and since then, he hasn’t felt the need to look for another gig. His loyalty to NCIS also became evident during an interview with WHOSAY, in which he mentioned that after NCIS, he has not actively pursued other roles. He said:
You think about other things, but for me, when you’re in it… when we’re actively filming, that’s pretty much what I got going on in my head.
While he has loved every part of the role, it has also come with its challenges. His character is a tech expert, so he had to read up more on technology, which was quite complex for him. But despite all of this, he has managed to continue playing the role to the best of his abilities.
Michael Weatherly and Sean Murray had the grossest prank war on NCIS
NCIS skyrocketed the career trajectory of actor Michael Weatherly, but apart from his acting skills, he also made some really good friends on the show. On the same subject, he and Sean Murray have been friends for several years, both on and off the show. In 2024, the audience got to see the duo reunite for the very first time after Weatherly left the show in 2016.

While their chemistry on screen is undeniable, their behind-the-scenes pranks were also just as entertaining. During an episode of Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch, which Weatherly co-hosted with Cote de Pablo, he shared a rather funny yet gross story about how he pranked Murray. He said that he warmed up some Clif Bars (chewy granola snacks) and shaped them into something very unappetizing.
He placed the same in Murray’s toilet and then waited outside to see his reaction when he discovered the mess. But of course, Murray wasn’t one to let a prank go unanswered, and just a week later, it was Weatherly’s turn. When he entered his trailer, he noticed a terrible smell, and when he looked at the toilet, he saw an even nastier mess.
He thought someone had used the toilet and forgotten to flush. But upon closer inspection, he realized it was actually a carefully planned prank.
You can watch all the seasons of NCIS on Prime Video.
