Andy Halliday reveals the advice he gave Celtic target Lennon Miller amid mounting transfer interest

ANDY HALLIDAY told Lennon Miller to divert Udinese to voicemail.

The Motherwell ace is certain the 18-year-old Fir Park star is destined for a call from one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Udinese, Belgian side Union St-Gilloise and Celtic all courted Miller in the January transfer window.

But the Steelmen are holding firm for a record-breaking fee for their academy product.

Halliday said: “I told Lennon if I was him and Udinese phoned I wouldn’t answer!

“That’s a little bit tongue-in-cheek but he’s better than that — the sky’s the limit for him, really.

“Motherwell are very lucky to have Lennon and he’s really lucky to have them.

“It’s been a club that’s given him a platform at such a young age. It’s allowed him to develop, allowed him to make mistakes, and let him grow and become the player he is just now.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt Lennon’s going to continue to grow, and then outgrow Motherwell.

“You see the kind of clubs that he has been linked with over the last couple of months.

“I’m just delighted to have Lennon from now until the end of the season, but if he continues the form he’s had for the last 18 months, well, we need to enjoy him while we can.”

Miller produced yet another performance beyond his years last Saturday as Michael Wimmer’s men stormed Ibrox and clinched an impressive 2-1 win.

The Steelmen certainly missed his influence in midfield while sidelined with an ankle injury earlier this year.

Halliday admits Miller was a big loss while sidelined and added: “Having Lennon back now is a huge boost for us.

“We’ve been in the top six for most of the season and he’s been a massive part of that. He’s worn the captain’s armband at times as well.

“Lennon’s scored some really big goals for us, like penalties in the last minute, and he’s chipped in with assists too.

“Even at his young age, he’s a huge influence on the team.

“We’ve missed him, along with the 15 other players who have been injured over the course of the season.

“It’s a huge boost for the team to have Lennon return to the fold.”
