Hollywood is full of dreamers, but some dreams are bigger than others. Take, for example, the power couple of sarcasm and perfect hair, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. While we all thought they were content with roasting each other on Instagram and cashing Marvel checks, an August 2024 report claims they had much grander ambitions.
Unfortunately, life isn’t a well-scripted rom-com, and their plan was allegedly derailed by none other than Justin Baldoni. And just to add a sprinkle of pettiness, entertainment reporter Kjersti Flaa decided to hop on the bandwagon and laugh at Lively’s Oscar ambition, just like the rest of the internet.
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s Hollywood takeover
According to an article from People Magazine published in August (via Kjersti Flaa), Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively weren’t content with just starring in films, they wanted to make them.
The couple allegedly had plans to transition into directing, producing, and, of course, winning all the awards. Nothing says power couple like both partners casually collecting Oscars like they’re party favors.
However, their grand plan came to a screeching halt when Justin Baldoni entered the scene. The actor-turned-director got into a legal dispute with Lively and now, Hollywood isn’t looking as welcoming. With Reynolds and Lively occupied, their ambitions took a hit, and their Hollywood domination plans are shelved, for now.
Kjersti Flaa and the internet’s reaction
Kjersti Flaa, entertainment reporter and apparent connoisseur of Hollywood shade. Flaa, never one to miss an opportunity for a little industry gossip, made a YouTube video reacting to the whole debacle, and let’s just say, she wasn’t exactly sympathetic.
Laughing at the idea of Blake Lively winning an Oscar, she echoed what many fans were already thinking, “Wait, Blake Lively was planning to win an Oscar?” While reading the article revealing Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s Oscar plans, she laughed and said,
What is she going to get an Oscar for? Definitely not acting let’s put it that way. Uh, maybe she was planning to get an Oscar nod for producing It Ends With Us. Uh, that’s why she wanted that PGA, the Producer Scale of America Mark. Well, that’s not going to happen.
While some die-hard Lively fans defended her acting chops, let’s not forget The Shallows and A Simple Favor, most people seemed to enjoy the sheer absurdity of Hollywood feuds spiraling into Oscar conspiracy theories.
Whether or not Reynolds and Lively’s plans will be revived post-Baldoni drama remains to be seen, but for now, they’ll have to settle for their wealth, good looks, and endless witty comebacks. Life is tough.
