Why I want to be called “Osahene” – Afenyo-Markin explains

Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has explained why he wants to be known as “Osahene” Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

According to him, although it is not a chieftaincy title, it was conferred on him by his uncle, who is the Omanhene of the Efuttu Traditional Council.

He insist he has to be referred to as Osahene in the legislative house henceforth since he has earned the title.

Osahene Alexander Afenyo-Markin, however, did not explain the meaning of the title.

“Mr Speaker, when doing the registration, you’re supposed to fill title whether Dr. Mr, Alhaji, Professor and others. Mr Speaker, if the Honourable Majority Whip so pleases, I shall produce for purposes of the Hansard the origin of my title Osahene. It is a title conferred on me by my uncle the Omanhene of the Efuttu Traditional Council, and I’m to use it, and I prefer to use that title so I do not think that you should have any problem with it.

I’m of that family; he is my uncle, and it was not done in private, it was the traditional council that met, and officially, through custom, it was conferred on me. It is not a chieftaincy title. It is not a chieftaincy title. Mr Speaker I rest my case, I want to be known not as Mr but Osahene Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin and that is how I filled my form, it is my title just as people want to be called Mr, Dr and Alhaji, they’ve earned it,” he stated.
