Invincible — All I Can Say Is I’m Sorry — Season 3, Episode 6 Spoiler Review and Recap

While Mark (Steven Yeun) and Eve (Gillian Jacobs) want a normal life, they continue to find moments when their superhero powers make it impossible. Even when they strive for a better future, the past keeps pushing their mistakes into their face. “All I Can Say is I’m Sorry” epitomizes that, proving that Mark cannot ignore what happened in Chicago. The ghosts of that event have haunted his psyche, but now, a true threat has emerged.

Invincible — “All I Can Say is I’m Sorry” — Recap

Invincible "All I Can Say Is I'm Sorry"

On a playground in Chicago, a young girl named Gretchen celebrates her 10th birthday. Scott (Aaron Paul) shows off his small electrical powers that get amplified as his niece punches his hands. Scott walks with Jessica and Gretchen back to their apartment. He decides to grab a cup of coffee before he returns to celebrate, but when he exits the shop, he sees Invincible holding Jessica’s arm — severed from its body. Scott cries as Invincible and Omni Man (J.K. Simmons) fly away.

After the battle, Scott approaches the District Attorney about prosecuting Invincible for Chicago. He does not understand why there’s not been a trial or investigation. She brushes him off, telling Scott that their laws do not apply when the hero tries to save the world.

Later, Scott watches the footage of Invincible being held in front of the train at work. He works as a researcher at the GDA and sees all the other projects being worked on to potentially fight back against Viltrimites. Among them are pads that are used to enhance electrical charge. This group of the GDA seems to be studying Mark to find weaknesses, eventually allowing Scott to vent to his co-workers about Invincible. His co-workers also revealed that some of their materials had gone missing.

The Elephant starts to destroy a burger chain but is stopped by Oliver. Mark gives Oliver some pointers, and they’re clearly using The Elephant as a training exercise. Eve tells Oliver to keep the fight away from the restaurant so they can grab burgers afterward, and when Oliver is done, they talk about Omni-Man. Oliver still struggles to understand why everyone hates their father, and Mark tries his best to explain the difference between the “two dads” they grew up knowing.

Scott screams out for Invincible, and gives himself the name “Powerplex.” His wife tells him he’s ready to show down with Invincible. She attaches the devices Scott stole from the GDA that allow him to conserve energy with each additional hit. Scott has his wife beat him with a hammer until he can shoot lightning from his hands. He laughs maniacally but breaks into tears. His wife comforts him before checking on their crying baby.

At the Grayson house, Eve and Mark talk to Paul about their business. Paul tries to relate and puts his foot in his mouth by comparing real estate to superheroes. After dinner, Paul beats himself up for speaking about their lives as if they are equal, but Debbie is thankful for him anyway. While he feels some self-doubt, she wants her boys to remember that life goes on for normal people. Their lives are important too.

Downtown, Scott takes his first jump into super-powered life, jumping down into the street from a tall building. He survives the fall and crushes the Earth below him. Mark and Eve spend the night out with their college friends. William continues to crush them at bowling, and Amber arrives with her boyfriend, Kyle. Mark and Kyle bond quickly over Seance Dog. Amber and Mark tell each other they’re happy in their relationship. Returning to their lane, they see Scott screaming on the TV. However, Mark turns off the TV, reminding everyone there are other heroes, and this is his night off.

Downtown, Scott shoots lightning at the police and calls for Invincible. He becomes even angrier when Shapesmith shows up to fight him instead. Eventually, Shapesmith starts punching him repeatedly until Scott unleashes an energy blast. Scott runs away and returns home. There, he beats himself up until his wife reminds him that tomorrow is the memorial for the Chicago victims. She thinks Invincible will be there.

Mark and Eve get ready for the memorial the next day. Mark questions if they should go, but Eve reminds him they’re also victims of what happened. He agrees as Paul asks how they’re getting to Chicago. The Graysons tell Paul they’re taking the car. At first, Paul is okay with the plan but freaks out as Mark lifts the vehicle into the air and flies it to the city.

Zachary Quinto (Robot)

At the Teen Team headquarters, Robot asks Monster Girl to transform into her monster form. His Robot body confirms she de-aged, but then Robot hands her a belt and asks her to transform again. This time, thanks to the belt, she does not de-age. Monster Girl realizes this means she can use her powers in a way that will allow her to live a normal life. She thanks him and begins to cry.

Rex tosses and turns in bed when Shrinking Rae knocks. Rex tries to tell her how he feels, and she agrees their night was great. However, she’s quitting the team. Rex admits a normal life would be nice, but he does not want to be a nobody. Rae grabs his hand and walks him to the roof. She believes they deserve a life where they take a risk for themselves. Rex struggles to shed his hero identity, but Rae tells him she’s leaving anyway. They kiss on the roof over the San Fransisco skyline.

In Chicago, people mourn at the Memorial. They are interrupted by Scott returning to confront Invincible. Mark tries to join the fight, but Eve tells him to hold back. She steps out to confront him and quickly realizes he gets stronger when people hit him. She quickly captures him, handing him over to the Guardians of the Globe.

In transit, Scott realizes that even bumps in the road help his powers regenerate. He escapes by throwing himself around the vehicle and then shocking the axle of the transport to cause a crash. He escapes and flies away. Back at the memorial, Mark asks Eve if he should be shielded from the victims who become collateral damage.

Scott makes it home and tells his wife that she should leave with their baby. She has another idea. Mark meets Donald on a GDA rooftop, who briefs Mark about Scott’s background. Donald then reveals to Mark that Scott escaped. As they talk, Scott puts a video out showing his wife and baby Jack as hostages. He demands Invincible, or he will kill innocent people.

After recording the video, Scott apologizes to his family. His wife agrees to play hostage until Invincible arrives. When Invincible does, Scott asks the hero what makes him special, throwing electricity at the man he blames for his family’s death. However, after he throws Scott into a pile of rubble, Invincible tries to help the woman and child. Instead, Scott’s wife spits on his face, calling him a monster.

Scott grabs the distracted Invincible, unleashing a massive electric burst, but in the process, he turns his wife and child to ash. He screams in pain, turning on Invincible once again. However, Invincible pushes through the electricity. He hugs Scott tight as the emotion courses through his body, and Scott collapses.

At GDA headquarters, Donald reveals they cannot remove the disks from Scott. Invincible asks for a moment with Scott, and he apologizes to Scott again. Invincible then tells him that he remembers both Gretchen and Jessica. Burying the fact that he could not save them does not make him a better hero, and he hopes that brings Scott some comfort. Instead, Scott vows to escape and kill Invincible.

At home, Mark sits on the rooftop alone. Eve arrives and tries to comfort him, but Mark remains silent instead. Nearby, another drone like the one before, watches. We get a full confirmation that a broken Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown) watches the drone on a monitor. In his ship, he has assembled an army of Invincibles from alternate galaxies. He utters a simple phrase, “This will do.”

Is the Invincible episode “All I Can Say Is I’m Sorry” worth watching?

Invincible "All I Can Say Is I'm Sorry"

The answer is an unequivocal yes. “All I Can Say is I’m Sorry” might be the best episode of Invincible since the Chicago incident (“Where I Really Come From”). Putting the episode through the lens of Scott does two excellent things for the comic book series. First, it provides a powerful emotional story that’s impossible to ignore. It not only calls back to one of the most tragic moments of the entire series, but it forces us to imagine the devastation of life as a civilian.

Scott recalls many characters we’ve seen in The Boys, another Seth Rogen-backed series. However, Aaron Paul’s vocal performance elevates “All I Can Say is I’m Sorry.” Not only does it hit the themes at the heart of Invincible, but Paul imbues Scott with an incredible amount of pain. Watching his transformation over the course is astounding, and reminds us of peak Jesse Pinkman emotion. Paul brings his all to the role and is astounding as Scott.

The idea of the past haunting Mark is also seeded throughout the episode. It starts with Oliver fighting The Elephant and the questions surrounding their father. He’s reminded of the battle with his Dad that left thousands killed. He even tries to bond with Paul and Amber’s boyfriend, trying to find new paths out of the life Mark has lived. However, it’s all impossible, and Mark must confront some aspects of his past, even as he tries to avoid them.

This leads to the ultimate reveal — Mark is going to literally fight himself. Mark’s various iterations might not be as powerful as our Invincible Prime, but under Angstrom Levy’s tutelage, they might work well as a team. The violence they could inflict on the world and Mark’s friends would be devastating. Ultimately, the world might be saved by Levy’s vengeance and unwillingness to let this Mark live rather than destroy the planet as a whole.

Additionally, we have to wonder if this is the Angstrom Levy Mark faced off with, or if it’s an alternate universe version. It seems likely this is the one Mark seemingly beat to death in Season 2, but you can never rule things out in a multiverse. What it means for the final two episodes is anyone’s guess, but they’re sure to be extra bloody and extra violent.

Invincible airs on Thursdays on Prime Video. “All I Can Say is I’m Sorry” aired on February 27, 2025.
