‘Some interesting match-ups’ say Virgin Media Grá Ar An Trá viewers as host Grainne Seoige pairs up singletons

VIRGIN Media viewers said the same thing as Grainne Seoige paired up the eight singletons on Grá Ar An Trá.

The highly anticipated second season of the popular dating show began tonight in celebration of Seachtain na Gaeilge.

Kicking off tonight, season two of Grá Ar An Trá will air for five nights consecutive nights.

The series features Bean and Man Tí, Síomha Ní Ruairc and James Kavanagh who throw open the doors of their Love Teach.

Meanwhile, popular presenter Grainne Seoige takes on the role of the ‘Cinnire Grá’ – the ‘Captain of Love’ – and is keeping a watchful and expert eye on the singletons.

The eight singletons taking part in the show are being put through their paces to learn Irish to find love.

Contestants split their time between flirting and foclóir with the ultimate aim of being crowned ‘Couple with the most focail’ to walk away with €10,000.

Contestants are able to secretly vote for the couples that they don’t think are making enough effort to teach and learn Irish and the couples who are voted will face the Cinnera Grá.

In the first episode which aired tonight, the four fluent Irish speakers – Cian, 28, Sonia, 21, JJ, 28, and Oisín, 27 – met Holly, 36, Daniel, 30, Kristina, 29, and Kealen, 21, who each only know a few words of the Irish language.

Cinnire Grá, Grainne Seoige, made her way to the house to meet the eight singletons for the first time.

All of the contestants then took part in the season’s first challenge, splitting into two teams to compete in a water obstacle course race.

Kealen won the race and earned the privilege of choosing who he wanted to go on a date with the following day.

For the rest of the day, the contestants spent the evening getting to know each other and playing board games.

The next morning, Kealan chose to take 21-year-old Sonia on a date, and the pair enjoyed a day by the beach.

Grainne then returned to the house to match each of the singletons into couples.

‘INTERESTING’

She paired Kristina with Oisin, Holly with JJ, Cian with Daniel, and Sonia with Kealen.

Virgin Media viewers said they were, “some interesting match-ups for sure”.

The new season of the show was set to air late last year but the broadcaster pulled the series from the schedule at the eleventh hour to “comply with Media Codes and Rules”.

In August last year, the show’s host Grainne put her name forward to contest the election for Fianna Fail in Galway West.

Shortly afterwards, the TV star was officially chosen to run for the party alongside Cllr John Connolly in Galway.

As an early election was likely to be called for November, the 51-year-old’s hosting gig would have put herself and Virgin Media in breach of the media regulatory authority’s, Coimisiún na Meán, guidelines that requires ‘fair allocation of airtime’ during elections.
