IRISH RAIL experienced some travel disruption this evening after a “trespasser” was removed from the train track in Bray.
A trespasser was removed from the tracks by the Gardai and the line has reopened but Irish Rail warned customers that there would be knock-on delays to the DART services in Dublin.
The individual trespasser is believed to have been on the tracks between Dalkey and Bray, forcing southbound services to run only as far as Dalkey.
Northbound services were also forced to begin from there during the incident.
Irish Rail stated that the trespasser boarded the Rosslare to Dublin train at Arklow and was behaving in a “disruptive manner”.
It occurred after the Ireland V France rugby match at the Aviva Stadium, which makes it an especially busy day for DART and intercity services.
It is understood that the DART and southbound rail services suffered some delays.
There were reports of 15 to 45 minutes of waiting time on social media.
In a statement issued by Irish Rail this afternoon, they said: “DARTs are currently suspended between Bray and Dalkey.
“A passenger who had boarded the Rosslare to Dublin train at Arklow was behaving in a disruptive manner, left the train at Bray and went onto the line, blocking the Rosslare train from departing.
“Security and rail staff attended initially and gardai are now attending to remove the man from the line.
“There have been delays to post-match trains, although the large post-match crowds have now cleared.
“We apologise to customers for the disruption and thank gardaí for their assistance.”
LUAS TRAVEL DISRUPTION
However, Irish Rail isn’t the only public transport to experience travel disruption today as the Luas is suffering some delays.
The Luas are operating with some delays due to a protest in the heart of the capital, affecting the Green lines.
They said: “Passengers, please be advised Green Line services are operating with delays due a protest taking place in Dublin City Centre.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
However, there are some reports on social media stating that the Red Lines are experiencing delays due to the Ireland V France rugby match and the protest.
In recent hours, the Green Line is believed to be operating normally with no delays.
The Red Line is still experiencing some delays, with reports of a 15-minute wait.
