Taylor Sheridan’s Crazy 1923 Season 2 Move Convinces Fans He “has lost his mind”

Spoiler Alert !!!
Spoiler Warning for 1923 Season 2

One of the most pressing issues that fans have over Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 is the depiction of s*xual violence. While the filmmaker wants to be truthful about the realistic portrayal of the era, it already looks too much for the eyes. The second season even got off to a sadistic start.

It also didn’t help that one of the titles in Season 2, specifically the second episode, went as far as sounding too vulgar for the taste. He could have chosen a better, more implicit term to convey the message of the plot.

1923 needs to improve the choice of words for episode titles

The return of Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 to the screen was highly anticipated by fans after the gripping ending of the previous installment. While many were very excited to tune in, some viewers could not help but wonder about the necessity of too much s*xual violence.

A fan on Reddit also expressed their concern over the latest episode’s title and suggested that the show creator “has lost his mind” for coming up with such a not-so-classy name.

There’s no denying that there are a bunch of explicit scenes that are deemed too disturbing for the audience, especially when the spotlight points to the female characters. It’s understandable why Sheridan uses these tropes to tell a story, but overdoing it takes away the audience’s enjoyment of the show.

It’s quite sad that the spinoff series has come to this, as we’ve seen his highly successful Yellowstone franchise use more appropriate and less offensive title episodes. There’s already too much insane brutality and gore in the show, and fans wish for Sheridan to tone it down and reduce the unnecessary s*xual violence as these elements are only ruining the story. His obsession with dark themes like these has become a major concern for the fans.

While many are still not over the shocking Season 2 opening, Madison Elise Rogers came to Sheridan’s defense and said that the depiction of women that distressed us all has a tinge of reality to it. Speaking with Screen Rant, she talked about her controversial character, Lindy, and the messy situation she’s in:

I think a lot of women can see themselves in a similar position or maybe have experience, to a smaller degree, of being in a situation with a man that’s powerful and dangerous. I think that is scary, and I think there’s something realistic about it.

Her take on the show is that it reflects the real side of a dangerous man who abuses his power, with women receiving the impact of the fall because he only sees them as mere collateral.

Sheridan’s projects are marketed as depictions of historical events, but these instances only make people question his true motives. Overs*xualization of women, extreme violence, and overuse of vulgar words are some of the biggest concerns for viewers.

1923 is currently available to watch on Paramount+.
