Rapper-model-businesswoman Iggy Azalea is one of the best-selling female rappers in the industry. The musician was infatuated with hip-hop from the moment she heard Tupac Shakur’s Baby Don’t Cry and has credited Beyoncé and Missy Elliott, who have influenced her. In 2024, Iggy Azalea announced her retirement from music to focus more on creative projects.

The Grammy award-winning rapper joined OnlyFans, where she has reportedly posted creative projects, which include music, video, and art. Azalea’s popular and successful single Fancy to date is one of the favorites of the fans, and at the time of its release, it became one of the decade’s most ubiquitous hits. Iggy Azalea defended rapper Tory Lanez by writing a letter of support as he was accused of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.
Iggy Azalea pens down ‘letter of support’ for Tory Lanez
Ahead of Tory Lanez’s sentencing for shooting fellow hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion in the foot, Iggy Azalea was one of the 70 people who wrote a 3-page letter of support addressed to Judge David Herriford. Reporter Meghann Cuniff made the letter public, and using Lanez’s real name, Daystar Peterson, Iggy Azalea addressed the judge by stating (via Daily Mail),
I am writing to you regarding a case in your court…. Becoming successful is incredibly hard to do, and maintaining success is even harder. The music industry is not designed to empower artists—especially not women. You learn to expect misogyny at every turn, no matter how much you’ve personally achieved. Sadly, I’ve spent my entire career battling sexism and bad behavior behind the curtains.
Azalea further noted that as a woman in the industry, she felt it was imperative she share her viewpoint in regard to Daystar Peterson, adding that the judge really needs to understand who she is sentencing. She mentioned that she was glad that Judge Herriford was in charge of the case, as he has a reputation for being fair and square.

The female rapper wrote in her letter that Tory Lanez froze in fear, which is why he had subpar legal counsel and did not take a stand at his own trial. Iggy Azalea mentioned that it’s unfortunate that he is now being painted in the most unrecognizable way in front of the judge, jury, and the public. She goes on to detail that they met in 2018 while working at the same recording studio.
Iggy noted that even though Lanez was working with some other artists, he took some time out and visited her and played some songs that he had written for her. She mentioned, ‘This resonated with me because it’s highly unusual for someone who’s already very successful to want to help others.’ She further wrote.
You see, Daystar has been helping me from the moment I met him. We’ve remained friends since, and what I’ve come to understand about Daystar is he’s genuinely passionate about helping others. He will go out of his way to help someone he sees even a glimmer of greatness inside. Although he’s an incredible songwriter, it’s my belief this is his true gift.
The rapper added that Tory Lanez has battled and overcome some incredible odds on his path to success, and in a way, he’s still struggling. She wrote he creates space for others, pointing out that she deeply appreciates the person he is and has never witnessed him lose his temper or raise his voice at a woman. Azalea noted that Tory Lanez has always been incredibly respectful of her, and she refuses to believe that he would do anything in malice, especially to a woman.
In her 3-page letter of support, Iggy Azalea urged the judge to consider a sentence that allows Daystar to be transformational and not life-destroying. She also shared she would hire the rapper if he was allowed to remain in the US. Her letter did not sit well with the audience, who said that they cannot believe the rapper is supporting the one who shot a female rapper.

Iggy Azalea noted that she was asked to write about her genuine experience and the type of punishment she thinks Tory Lanez deserves, and she did. The female rapper stayed firm that her letter did not address or touch on the nature of the case and insisted that she supports no one. The musician mentioned she hasn’t been in touch with the rapper for months, but she does wish him well.

It was reported that Iggy Azalea and Tory Lanez were reportedly dating before he was convicted. They were working on her fourth studio album, which was abandoned after he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Despite being convicted, according to HipHop DX, Tory Lanez has not stopped making music, and in his attempts to rekindle his romance with Iggy Azalea, she referenced her name in his new album Peterson. The lyrics of the song 9$ide X Amethyst read,
There are nights I want to talk to Iggy, but she blocked me/Amethyst, if you ever hear this shit, shawty, call me/ You know that I’m always making’ spicy bitches salty/Need to come correct’ cause all that shit I did was faulty/ I miss when you wrapped around my body like a tall tee.
Tory Lanez also references their relationship in the song Guide Me Through Storm song with the lyrics, ‘County jail crying real tears to Iggy Azalea/I know you put up with some shit that just wasn’t familiar…’
The two of them never commented on their rumored romance, but Lanez’s album clarifies the picture.
