AMD’s RX 9070 series of GPUs have been incredibly well received, and stand out as offering the ultimate value for money in a space that is dominated by stagnation at present. AMD’s pricing also seems quite appropriately reasonable here, and the tech giant has also assured would be buyers of readily available stock.
However, things seem to be a fair bit worse this time around, as scalpers and a general lack of supply has come to haunt AMD, resulting in multiple cancelled pre-orders as well as exaggerated pricing.
Demand for RX 9070 XTs skyrocket, resulting in pre-order cancellations

While AMD’s RX 9000 series is a triumph for both the industry and consumers alike, it’s initial launch week hasn’t been without controversy, The tech giant’s RX 9070 XT series of RDNA 4 GPUs have exceeded expectations – resulting in an unprecedented number of buyers.
Retailers and manufacturers are simply unable to keep up with this sudden boost in demand, and as such seem to be offloading these costs to the consumers instead. As part of a recent report, AMD’s RX 9070 stock only honors the MSRP for its initial few shipments, after which buyers can expect much more inflated prices for future shipments of the GPU.
The first few shipments have already been sold out, and buyers are being forced to pay an absurd amount in order to grab the card from scalpers. Multiple reports have also cropped up online, detailing how pre-orders for the RX 9070 XT were immediately cancelled following the rush.
The email sent goes into further detail about the same, warning customers of lowered stock and inflated prices.

In a bid to retain customer goodwill (and thereby not overcompensate with regards to available GPU stocks), these sellers have decided to outright cancel and refund said pre-orders.
It should be kept in mind here that AMD intends to honor retail pricing, but currently has no way to combat scalpers and the general overwhelming demand for these cards.
Regardless, AMD is in a bit of a sticky situation here, and have clearly underestimated the demand for these GPUs. How they plan on addressing the issue, and thereby reissue more cards before buyers end up getting even more frustrated, remains to be seen.
AMD issues an official statement regarding the pricing and availability

AMD has already issued an official statement regarding the controversy, and has clarified that the launch-only pricing dilemma is ‘inaccurate’. In short, AMD expects cards to be priced at their usual $549 or $599 MSRPs, (without taking into consideration regional tariffs and taxes).
AMD also intends to cooperate with vendors in order to ensure a fair distribution of its components, at its suggested prices. GPU vendors cannot, after all, dictate the prices of these cards – which is deemed somewhat illegal.
While AMD’s stance on the matter is very much appreciated (and somewhat reassuring), the fact remains that RX 9070 stocks are impossible to find in any part of the world. This is quite the unfortunate situation, and it is hoped that AMD will manage to find a way to restore stock without sacrificing on consumer goodwill, and eliminate scalpers in the process.
