Christopher Nolan could be joining the James Bond franchise as he is reportedly Amazon’s top choice to helm upcoming projects. The studio gained creative control after long-time producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli decided to move away from the action franchise.

Now, with the possibility of Nolan directing a Bond movie, as well as rumored spinoff projects being discussed at the headquarters, one thing’s for sure: fans will have a lot to look forward to from their beloved British spy agent.
Christopher Nolan working with Amazon for a James Bond movie is still a possibility
It is not a far-fetched idea to have Christopher Nolan on board the James Bond franchise. He is a highly acclaimed director who has worked with several blockbuster movies, and more importantly, he’s a major fan of the character. In fact, a report from TheWrap revealed that several insiders noted that “Nolan remains both the top choice and the perfect filmmaker to reinvigorate Bond.”
The director has also previously expressed interest in making a Bond movie, but when Barbara Broccoli notably said that no director would have the final cut while she still oversees the project, Nolan had to pass. To this day, it remains to be seen whether or not the Oscar-winning filmmaker would want to team up with Amazon.

That being said, the studio is reportedly planning to helm two spinoff series based on two fan-favorite characters, MI6 secretary Moneypenny and Felix Leiter, via The Hollywood Reporter. The producers have spoken out against the idea as they want the Bond franchise to remain centered on the famed British spy. They were also reluctant about the concept of moving James Bond to the small screen.
With Amazon getting full creative control over the franchise, there is no stopping them from pushing forward with their spinoff plans. Even Ian Fleming Publications released novels in the 2000s from Moneypenny’s POV. Dynamite Entertainment also published a comic book series called James Bond: Felix Leiter, which can be used as a source if the studio comes up with a decision.
Amazon could hire Nolan to revive the Bond franchise, and the most sustainable way to do this is to helm a theatrical film rather than produce a spinoff series with supporting characters as the lead.
James Bond fans aren’t excited about spinoff series

Even fans don’t think the spinoff series would work to the advantage of the James Bond franchise. They believe these would only ruin the legacy of the film series. Read some of their thoughts below:
Barbara Broccoli was right though. This is exactly what the franchise doesn’t need. A bunch of spinoffs of the MI6 supporting characters.

Multiple spin offs is what kills a franchise. Bond still has a prestige/fresh feeling because they were careful with the brand and didn’t oversaturate the market. If it becomes something without ending in sight and too many content it will start flopping. Bond got private equited

Amazon will destroy Bond sadly.

They’re racing to milk it as much as possible before it hits public domain in 2035.

The studio is still committed to making another Bond movie, and it remains to be seen how the upcoming projects will look now that Broccoli and Wilson are no longer in control.
