Filmmaker Bong Joon-Ho is widely popular for his cinematic genius and out-of-the-box storylines. This was quite evident from his work on the critically acclaimed movie Parasite that also bagged him an Oscar for Best Director. But after this movie in 2019, he sort of disappeared from the big screens. Now, after a hiatus of 6 years, Joon-Ho made a comeback with the recently released Mickey 17.

In this, he worked with the likes of Robert Pattinson and Mark Ruffalo. But while the movie is getting good reviews, one element of it is looking eerily similar to Donald Trump’s real-life assassination attempt in 2024. And the sheer timing of everything has left the fans wondering, but the filmmaker made sure to deny all of it.
Did Mickey 17 already predict Donald Trump’s assassination attempt?
Mickey 17 brought forth Bong Joon-Ho back on the filmmaking scene after six long years. But just like his other movies, even this one has kept the headlines rolling, but this time for a very different reason. In a particular scene in the movie, Mark Ruffalo’s character, Kenneth Marshall, who is a charming yet polarizing leader, gets grazed by a bullet during an assassination attempt.

While this happened in the movie, people have now brought Donald Trump into the mix as well, as a similar thing happened to him in July of 2024. But according to the filmmaker, both of these things are just pure coincidence and have no connection with what happened to Trump in real life.
The movie, starring Robert Pattinson, was written in the year 2021 and was filmed in 2022, long before the events of 2024 took place. He also added via MovieMaker, “The way we shot it is exactly how it is in the script.” With this statement, he further pushed back the speculation that the scene was inspired by real-world events.
The filmmaker has always had a reputation for tapping into societal anxieties with uncanny precision. The best example of this would be his work in Parasite, which dissected class divides with brutal honesty. Now, Mickey 17 has also captured a very different kind of political unease.
The reason why Robert Pattinson is so afraid of horror movies
Robert Pattinson can easily be one of the most handsome and bankable actors out there, with a plethora of movies to his credit. From his Harry Potter days to him playing the lead in Twilight, fans have cherished all of his movies. While he might have played a blood-sucking vampire in the latter, in real life, he’s quite scared of horror movies.

He revealed all of this in an interview via GQ alongside his Mickey 17 director Bong Joon-Ho. He detailed that he loved watching such kinds of movies when he was younger, but now he’s just too sensitive for them. The director playfully asked him if fatherhood had something to do with it, but the actor laughed it off and said that this fear kicked in way before he became a dad.
Pattinson also revealed that one recent scare also left him sleeping with a knife when he watched a movie of a director he was set to meet. So, he grabbed two knives from his kitchen and sat down on his sofa, waiting for an intruder.
His girlfriend Suki Waterhouse later found him with the knives and “She was like, ‘What is happening? Why do you have two knives in your face?’” The actor then laughed and revealed that the supposed intruder was just a squirrel.
