Prof. Stephen Adei criticizes partisan governance in Ghana

Economist Prof. Stephen Adei has raised concerns over Ghana’s partisan approach to governance, warning that it continues to undermine long-term economic growth.

He emphasized the need for leadership that prioritizes strategic planning over political loyalty to ensure sustainable national development.

Speaking on the importance of the National Economic Dialogue on TV3’s Keypoints, which took place from March 3 to 4, Prof. Adei stressed that the country cannot progress without a long-term development framework.

“Our governments are not interested in the National Development Planning Commission. They don’t fund them. They don’t equip them with the technical personnel, which is needed,” he lamented.

He further underscored the necessity of expert-driven policies that extend beyond electoral cycles, advocating for a governance system that is focused on national progress rather than political gains.

“Ghana needs leadership that prioritizes economic strategy over party loyalty. Governments must listen to experts and implement policies that outlive election cycles,” he stated.
