The Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks faced off, which meant that two former teammates played against each other in Jalen Brunson and Luka Doncic. The two had big games for their respective teams, but the Lakers came out victorious, and after the game, they swapped jerseys with each other. Dallas Mavericks fans have to be in shambles after seeing the video because they once had both Doncic and Brunson but let them go.
Fans made sure to let the Mavericks know on social media how poor of a job they’ve done to keep their star players.
“Former Dallas Mavericks teammates. Dallas FO let Jalen walk, and traded Luka. Unbelievable mismanagement. Anyway, congrats Lakers,” one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“Can’t believe the Mavs drafted both of them in the same year. They must’ve got a haul in return and are now one of the better young teams…wait,” another user wrote.
“Nico Harrison let Brunson walked btw. Just to add to his list of accomplishments,” a third user wrote.
The Mavericks drafted both Doncic and Brunson in the same draft, and though they weren’t the players they are now, it was a solid foundation that the team was building. When it was time for Brunson to get paid, the Mavericks decided to let him walk and signed with the Knicks and has turned into one of the better guards in the league.
The story of Doncic getting traded is still fresh in everybody’s mind, and as of now, the Mavericks don’t have much to show for the move. Anthony Davis is still sidelined with an injury, and Kyrie Irving is out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.
Maybe if the Mavericks had stayed patient and kept their core group, things would have looked differently for them.
