I’m Glad Invincible Season 3 Episode 7 Didn’t Drag the Invincible War That Will Set Up the Show’s Traitor Like a Suckerpunch

Spoiler Alert !!!
Spoilers ahead for Invincible Season 3

The latest episode of Invincible covered a lot of ground, from bringing back Angstrom Levy and the Invincible War to the first appearance of Conquest. The show saw some of its most devastating moments during the War as Mark Grayson had to fight his worst enemy: himself and more of himself. However, many felt that it got over too soon.

While it stays true to the comics, I am glad the makers did not drag out the War for more than an episode or worse, the whole season. Invincible is not a show that gives breathing room to Mark Grayson and being a superhero in real life does not always have time outs. It may also set up Rudy Connors’ a.k.a Robot’s betrayal.

The Invincible War in the latest episode of Invincible was rightly timed

In any normal show, an extinction-level event like the Invincible War would have been dragged out for a few episodes at least, if not for a season. It is a great space for drama and has so many variables that each of them seems to warrant some level of exploration. Building up to a big fight is always more dramatic.

However, Invincible is not your traditional superhero show. It evaluates what it means to be a hero in the real world, and it is not all shields and capes. It is doing the right thing at every point, and the threats are never as spaced out as they are shown in other shows and films. Hence, even after the Invincible War is over, the next threat, Conquest, is already there.

In the comics, the Invincible War had a lot more going on as characters like Spawn and Witchblade also showed up. I would have loved for them to be there, but I’m sure the right issues would have been a nightmare.

While the makers did say that they contemplated splitting it into two episodes, I am glad they didn’t. Showrunner Simon Racioppa said to EW,

I’m also of the mind of just, keep it moving…[we packed] a whole Marvel Phase 1, 2, and 3 in one episode…We put [Mark] through the ringer 100 different ways in this season.

I am glad we got Conquest too this season and the next episode will definitely see some brutal action again, furthering Mark’s journey into truly becoming Invincible. But, I am also excited to see how the makers adapt the Robot storyline.

The Invincible War sets up Robot’s betrayal from the comics

The Invincible War with Angstrom Levy bringing Marks from different dimensions to take over Earth is one of the highlights of the comics and the show did a great job at adapting it. In fact, Invincible has been pretty much following Robert Kirkman’s comics and has rarely strayed too far away, which makes me all the more excited for Robot’s heel turn.

In the comics, Robot a.k.a Rudy Connors goes rogue and betrays Mark in a bid to take over the world. He kills Angstrom Levy and leaves Mark in an alternate dimension, hoping he would not be an obstacle for his plans. He tells the team back home that he could not find Mark until the latter finally escapes and tells them the truth.

Thus begins a long storyline of violence, betrayal, and world-conquering plans set in motion by Robot. The storyline is one of the most interesting arcs in the comics and the show might just adapt it for an upcoming season. There is no rush, though, as Conquest is finally here and Mark has a Viltrumite to take care of.

Invincible is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
