“I don’t care what it costs, get rid of her”: Jeff Bezos Reportedly Ordered Barbara Broccoli Out of James Bond After She Called Amazon Execs ‘F**king Idiots’

The James Bond film media franchise has been a long ongoing one, starting from 1962’s Dr. No under Cubby Broccoli’s supervision down to the most recent from 2021, No Time to Die, under producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. But now the ownership for Bond has inevitably changed ships as it was recently sold by Broccoli and Wilson to Jeff Bezos’ Amazon.

However, following this latest turn of events, Bezos doesn’t seem to be all that happy with Broccoli in the first place. To say the least, the latest reports are claiming that the CEO of Amazon ostensibly stumbled across Broccoli’s quote where she called Amazon executives “f–ing idiots,” following which he reportedly ordered her to be out of Bond irrespective of whatever it may cost.

While they have completely sold off Bond to Amazon now, the sprawling global syndicate had already purchased MGM, Bond’s longtime home, back in 2022 for a reported $8.5 billion. The only thing that was stopping them from milking the franchise dry were Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who had a decades-long deal with MGM guaranteeing them creative dominion over all things Bond.

But now things have changed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, their decision to sell it off completely seems to have stemmed from a turn of events that reportedly had Jeff Bezos ordering them to get rid of Broccoli. Per the reports, this goes back to December, a month after the original producer duo picked up the Irving G. Thalberg Oscar at the Governors Awards.

Apparently, back then, the executive chairman of Amazon stumbled across a published piece from The Wall Street Journal that detailed the not-so-good state of affairs between Amazon and the Broccolis. While that was that, the thing that ostensibly turned matters sour was the part where Broccoli was quoted to have told her friends that Amazon executives were “f—ing idiots.”

That, inevitably, didn’t sit well with Bezos. As per an insider’s description of how he reacted to this: “He read her quote in the Journal and got on the phone and said, ‘I don’t care what it costs, get rid of her.’” This, apparently, led to him paying something close to a whopping billion dollars to completely get his hands on the franchise and get rid of Broccoli.

Fans supporting Barbara Broccoli are now worried about James Bond’s future

Of course, Jeff Bezos’ ordering to get rid of Barbara Broccoli does not, in any way, sound like a piece of positive news to fans, especially those who support Broccoli and the comment she made about Amazon executives. To say the least, these very fans are concerned about the Bond franchise’s future, worrying that Amazon will, in fact, milk it all dry to the core.

Taking to X, here’s how they’re sharing their reactions to the same:

All in all, Barbara Broccoli’s removal from the franchise, reportedly due to her comments about Amazon executives, has sparked concerns that the franchise will be mishandled. As the dust settles, fans can only hope that Amazon will respect the legacy of the peerless spy and continue to produce high-quality films that live up to the standards instead of milking the cash cow dry.
