After dedicating 17 long years to Top Chef, Padma Lakshmi made the difficult decision to step back from her hosting duties. This came as a huge shock to fans who just couldn’t imagine watching the show without her. For 20 seasons, she was the heart and soul of Top Chef, bringing a unique sense of grace and elegance to it.
And while Kristen Kish is also doing a good job as her replacement, a past interview with Lakshmi further solidified why nobody can ever replace her.

After saying goodbye to the cooking show, she ventured into other projects as well. One such venture was a lingerie line, and while she’s embracing this new life, her only demand for the brand is what won everyone over.
Padma Lakshmi has a special demand when it comes to her lingerie line
Padma Lakshmi is a multi-talented woman, whether it be her stint as the host of Top Chef, her activism, or her work as an author. But after saying goodbye to the competitive cooking show after 17 years, she ventured into a very different project altogether.
She stepped into the bold world of fashion with Padma X Bare Necessities and launched a 19-piece lingerie and swimwear collection with the sole aim of making women feel “sexy, pretty, and confident” via People.

While the launch gathered huge attention, it was her unwavering commitment to authenticity that truly stood out. Unlike other designers who rely heavily on editing and airbrushing, Lakshmi had a different approach for her line altogether. During her own photoshoot, she put forward a condition that the photographers would not edit out her scars, stretch marks, or any other so-called “imperfections.” She stated:
Don’t take out my scar, and don’t take out my inoculation mark, and do not take out the stretch marks on my thigh and bottom, because I have them.
For the former host, embracing her true self without any touch-ups was something she did to help other women feel more confident in their skin. While this is truly heartwarming, Lakshmi has never been one to shy away from challenging societal norms—whether it be clapping back at body shamers and haters or proudly sharing small tidbits about her life.
She has always been vocal about how confidence isn’t about fitting into someone else’s shoes but creating one’s own journey.
With this, she has joined the growing list of women in Hollywood who are redefining so-called beauty standards on their own terms. As she moves forward in her life, one thing is certain—while Kristen Kish is a good host as well, she will need to do a lot more to take Lakshmi’s place.
Padma Lakshmi reflected on missing her daughter while being away for Top Chef
Managing a demanding career and motherhood is never easy, and for Padma Lakshmi, it was quite challenging to be away from her young daughter, Krishna. In a past Instagram post, she detailed just how much she missed her child and how she struggled with the distance.

Lakshmi has always traveled abroad to fulfill her work commitments and is grateful for the opportunities as well. However, she revealed that she had been on the road since February, stating, “Some days, it’s really hard … and I miss my kid.”
Despite her love for storytelling and food, staying away from Krishna left her feeling disconnected from her daughter’s daily life. Their conversations on the phone were also quite brief, making the distance feel even greater. She expressed all of this in a past post and is currently working through a new phase of her life.
While she may have had many reasons for leaving Top Chef, there is no denying that she represents women who not only excel in their careers but are also dedicated parents.
