Cody Rhodes refused to sell his soul to The Rock and in turn got smacked by a heel turned John Cena (a sentence no one ever saw coming). Rhodes finally finished his story as the Undisputed WWE Champion after his win against Roman Reigns in last year’s WrestleMania XL. It was his first world championship win in his career.
Rhodes and Dwayne Johnson’s feud started way back when the former promised that he would take two of the most prestigious titles bestowed on The Rock. Rhodes claimed thirteen years ago that he would be synonymous with the WWE Championship and be called the People’s Champion instead of The Rock.
Cody Rhodes promised Dwayne Johnson that he would be the champion, thirteen years ago

Cody Rhodes is really one of the most popular babyfaces in the WWE right now. The legacy wrestler finally won his first world championship at WrestleMania XL against Roman Reigns and is currently the Undisputed WWE Champion. He won the WWE Championship and the Universal Championship, despite losing the match on day one of the event.
Rhodes’ road to the championship has not been easy. He comes from a line of legacy wrestlers, with his father and half-brother both being in the business. His journey to becoming the Undisputed WWE Champion is all the more satisfying because he was the underdog who promised to win thirteen years ago.

During the early stages of his career, Cody Rhodes, donning a dorky moustache, claimed to take the titles of WWE Champion and People’s Champion from Dwayne Johnson a.k.a The Rock. While the moustache may no longer be part of his Homelander-esque look, the promise has been fulfilled.
Rhodes’ story is all set to go through a painful journey as he just got smacked by John Cena’s heel turn. While Cena embarks on his retirement tour, Rhodes has the chance to get the torch from the legendary babyface.
Cody Rhodes refused Dwayne Johnson’s proposition to turn heel

Cody Rhodes became part of a historic moment in the WWE last week when John Cena turned heel at the nth moment after the former refused to join Dwayne Johnson a.k.a The Rock. It was all the more heartbreaking for Rhodes as Cena helped him secure his Championship titles last year at WrestleMania XL.
While Rhodes refused to ‘sell his soul’ to The Final Boss, he was reportedly genuinely propositioned by The Rock to turn heel and join him in the WWE. However, Rhodes reportedly refused and even the company felt that it was the wrong move (via Wrestling Noticias),
The report stated The Final Boss wanted to align with Cody Rhodes and turn him heel. Moreover, people in the company believed the move would’ve hurt them, and The American Nightmare decided to turn down the idea and remain a babyface.
Rhodes has been a babyface for most of his career and the fans love his story. Turning him into a heel would not be the right move at the moment. His refusal did make way for John Cena’s heel turn, though, and it is set to be one of the legendary runs in the WWE.
