Ever since James Gunn was announced as head of the new DC Universe, given the task of rebranding the entire comic book-based world, there have been consistent calls by fans to have Alan Ritchson play Batman. The star of Amazon Prime’s Reacher series, Ritchson has become a favorite of the DC fandom thanks to his physicality. Even Ritchson himself has consistently shown his interest in essaying the superhero, stating time and again that he would be up for the opportunity no matter what.
In a recent interview, the actor again responded to the rumors of him playing the Dark Knight, claiming he doesn’t even need a paycheck to be on board.
Alan Ritchson addresses Batman casting rumors again!
Alan Ritchson is one of the most fan-casted actors out there when it comes to DC’s Batman. Ever since he gained prominence for his role of Jack Reacher in the Reacher series, Ritchson has been named as one of the top choices for the role of Batman by fans.
There have been more than a few times when the actor has been forced to comment about the matter and has always shown his interest in playing the caped hero. Recently, when he appeared for WIRED’S Autocomplete Interview, the question Is Alan Ritchson playing Batman? was brought up, and Ritchson, being a huge fan of the character already, stated:
I get asked every day if I’m playing Batman. Yeah, would I play Batman? Yes. Would I pay handsomely to be Batman? You wouldn’t even have to pay me to be Batman. I would, yeah, I would don the suit. [Said in his Batman voice] ‘Gotham is mine.’ Look at that. I don’t even have to practice. It just comes out naturally.
Ritchson even remarked that what was amazing about this rumor was when James Gunn had to personally announce that the Reacher star was not playing Batman. Well, over the years, the actor has stated multiple times that he would love to play the Dark Knight, but it seems far-fetched that James Gunn would cast him.
Alan Ritchson has wanted to play Batman for the longest time
While Alan Ritchson has been a favorite of fans for potentially playing Batman, the actor himself loves the character deeply and would be up for the task in a second. Before his recent comments made during his WIRED interview, Ritchson once revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he would love to be Batman.
I would love to play Batman, there, I said it! Okay I’ll shout it from the rooftops, ‘I want to be Bruce Wayne!’
In the same interview, he later added that he loves how smart the superhero character is.
Here’s the thing about Batman — you know what his superpower is? Intelligence: The dude is the smartest superhero there is. He’s inventive and he’s got all the gadgets stuff, but he’s super smart. I want to be that guy and also to have like a cave with hyper cars, sports cars, and awesome motorcycles.
In another interview with Fortress of Solitude, Ritchson again showed his interest in playing the character, stating how Batman is a much cooler character than Jack Reacher. Given his experience in the DC verse, he played Aquaman in Smallville and Hawk in Titans, Alan Ritchson is surely one of the best actors to potentially play the caped crusader.
