Sometimes playing Marvel Rivals can feel like a full-time job, especially if you are the main breadwinner in your family. Because just like your real-life dynamics, you sometimes have to carry the weight of all of your teammates inside the game, and it can take a toll on you, particularly if you are a Vanguard player.

There are three different classes of characters in this hero-shooter game. And the one that’s supposed to be tank, called the Vanguards, are undoubtedly the most underrated of them all. To begin with, not many players out there think of playing a tank character, and it’s a nightmare come true for those who do.
What it feels like to be a Vanguard main in Marvel Rivals

We get it; there are different characters in the game, and you are free to choose from any of them. But helping form a better team than just focusing on your sole gameplay might help you win a game or two here and there.
Duelists and strategists are the more commonly picked classes of characters in Marvel Rivals. The problem starts when players who choose these classes end up not supporting their Vanguard teammates, who more often than not are just one in the team of five. Reacting to the struggles of these players, a user posted the following thread on the game’s official subreddit.
Holy hell, I understand the solo vanguard problem now so much better.

User u/REDSP1R1T replied to the above post saying how playing Vanguard is a ‘thankless job’, and it is possibly the truest thing that has been said on Marvel Rival’s subreddit in a while. Ever since the game’s launch back in December last year, there have been many problems with how players choose to form the team, and Vanguards have been overlooked ever since.
The biggest problem being a tank main in Rivals

There are problems that go deeper than being the sole tank player in your team of 5. When it comes to a game like Marvel Rivals, with different game modes all requiring different strategies and a little luck in order to win, it becomes important to play together properly as a team.
Unfortunately, this simple logic flies over a lot of players’ heads, mainly duelists. Being the sole Vanguard on your team, you are probably smart enough to understand that the objective should be to create and maintain space on the objective area of the round, something that unfortunately you are always left alone to do while duelists and support players are out there getting their damage and healing statistics up.
It hasn’t been a long time since Marvel Rivals came out, and it will be a few months before it cements its place in the industry. Hopefully, until then, players will realize that supporting their tank players is possibly the best way to go about things if they wish to win the match.
