There’s a lot of pressure that comes from working in one of the biggest television franchises in history, but for actors like Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner—who both joined Game of Thrones when they were 12 and 15, respectively—the challenge was how to manage themselves on the set.

Williams and Turner brought to life two of the most beloved characters from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire: Arya and Sansa. The Stark sisters shared a bond like no other in the show, so it was also important for the actors to exude that chemistry on and off-screen.
Why Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams became a “nightmare” on Game of Thrones set
Maisie Williams met her costar, Sophie Turner, during her second audition for the part of Arya Stark where she had to do a scene with three different girls. They immediately got along together to the point that they both wanted to bag the coveted roles just so they would meet again. From there, their friendship blossomed, and the duo became instant BFFs.
However, working together proved to be a pain not only for both of them but also for the crew, although in a very hilarious way. Turner revealed in an interview with Rolling Stone that she and Williams were “a nightmare to work with.” They weren’t really acting like divas on set or constantly messing up their lines, but the English actress confessed it’s more on a relatable note. “If you’re working with your best friend, you will never get any work done, ever,” she said.

Anyone would agree that when you have your best friend around, there’s always going to be laughter and good times. Turner said that whenever she and Williams try to act serious for work, it felt like the most difficult thing in the world. “I think they really regretted putting us in scenes together,” the actress added.
Well, if they’re putting on their Sansa and Arya game face, fans surely loved seeing them shoulder to shoulder. Their funny antics were also understandable—they were very young in Season 1 and just trying to enjoy their time on set while dealing with the pressure of giving a great performance.
How does Maisie Williams describe Sophie Turner?

In her conversation with Winter is Coming, Williams said she saw a little bit of Sansa in Turner whenever they hang out together. She described her costar as “very sophisticated and likes to take charge,” which was definitely a fitting description for the Queen in the North. More importantly, she emphasized that Turner “is definitely not an airhead.”
To this day, the costars have maintained their friendship, and it’s incredible to see them grow together in the show. Despite Turner claiming they were a nightmare to work with, their fellow cast and crew members surely enjoyed hanging out with them when the cameras weren’t rolling.
Game of Thrones is currently available to watch on Max.
