Menorca is one of the Balearic Islands off the south east coast of Spain.

It’s a lesser-known spot in the sea between Valencia and the country’s second-largest city, Barcelona.
The island is known to be a more low-key version of its neighbours, Ibiza and Malaga, without sacrificing its beauty.
It boasts miles of golden sand beaches, crystal clear water, and natural rocky cliffs.
It’s also famous for being the first place in Spain to see the sunrise from the east.
And it enjoys year round warm weather, making it the perfect way to escape from the spring showers at home.
Temperatures climb as high as 18C even early in the year so it’s ideal for soaking up some sun.
Unlike some islands, the spot is easily accessible despite its size, with its own airport.
The flight time from Dublin Airport is just 2.5 hours depending on the day, so it’s a handy place to head for a short trip.
BRILLIANT BEACHES
And flights can be found for less than €50, meaning you can take a weekend trip without breaking the bank.
Ryanair is offering seats on the trip for just €49 on selected dates throughout March and April.
A major attraction of Menorca is undoubtedly the beaches, which line the coast for miles.
Because the island is a lesser-known spot, the beaches tend to be quieter than many, and ideal for relaxing.
Playa de Son Bou is a gorgeous beach that’s popular among families because of the safe water.
The beach boasts warm, clear water that’s perfect for taking a dip, and soft sand where you can relax.
There are sunbeds available for rent, as well as umbrellas to enjoy some much needed shade.
A major bonus is that there are small boats available to rent up and down the beach.
Banana boats and ring rides can be purchased from companies along the beach to add some heart-pumping fun to your day.
SECRET BEACH
A less well-known spot that’s well worth taking a trip to see is Cala Turqueta.
Although it requires a complicated bus route to reach, the spot is a must-see when in Menorca.
It’s a secluded rocky bay which boasts gorgeous cliffs surrounding it and stunning turquoise waters.
It is home to wild animals such as goats and is the perfect spot to enjoy a day away from the crowds.
There’s also a nearby cafe so you can stock up on drinks and snacks before laying out your towel.
But there’s more to the island than just beaches.
A visit to the capital city of Mahon is a must-do, to take in stunning sights and immerse yourself in the local culture.
The cliff top city enjoys gorgeous views of a harbour below and is home to excellent shopping and delicious food and drink.
A unique activity while in the capital is to take a glass bottom boat trip.
NIGHT TIME VIBES
The glass-bottom boats allow you to explore the waters around the island without ever having to get wet.
And you can appreciate the wildlife from the comfort of a driven boat, while some even offer drinks on board.
While in the city, be sure to take in a gin tasting to sample the drink Menorca is famous for.
The Menorca Gin Distillery offers everything that gin lovers could want, from chocolate to chamomile gin.
At night, the island has plenty on offer but a truly unique spot to check out is the cave bar, Cova d’En Xoroi.
The pub is built into a series of caves and caverns that you can explore while enjoying a drink.
It’s a truly stunning spot where you can be sure to snap the perfect Instagram-worthy photo.
Aside from the cave bar, the island is dotted with late-night eateries and cocktail bars where you can dance the night away.
And with the average price of a pint set at just €2.50, you can enjoy a night out without breaking the bank.
BEAUTY SPOT
And in 1993, the entire island was named a nature reserve, especially the S’Albufera d’es Grau park.
A visit to the area is an absolute must for nature lovers and those who want to see life on the island from a different perspective.
It boasts stunning walking trails as well as sightseeing and natural beauty.
