Solo Leveling has taken the anime world by storm, offering breathtaking animation, intense fighting scenes, and an adaptation that has largely stayed true to the source material. A-1 Pictures has done an amazing job of bringing Sung Jin-Woo’s tale to screen, but some viewers are already panicking about Beru’s appearance before he is fully unveiled.

This premature skepticism is unfounded, especially considering the studio’s consistent quality throughout the season. Coincidentally, such overreaction isn’t particular to anime fan communities. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has an age-old track record of releasing scenes within the trailers that ultimately do not end up in the final film.
The Hulk in the Infinity War trailer vs. Beru in Solo Leveling teasers: Patience is key
The most infamous example of such an incident is Avengers: Infinity War, where the trailers showed Hulk leading the charge to battle in Wakanda, only for Bruce Banner to spend the entire movie struggling with his alter ego and fighting in the Hulkbuster suit instead.

Just as Marvel tricked audiences with the Infinity War trailers, the anime community also carefully curates promotional content. The intention is not to mislead, but to create hype and preserve some secrets. Though it’s not likely that A-1 Pictures will make the same move as Marvel, where a whole character’s appearance in a scene is changed, they are still operating under the limitations of a serialized production.

Initial hints at animation tend to get dramatically cleaned up by the time they’re seen in the actual episode. In spite of this, a few fans are showing premature anxiety over Beru’s appearance and role in the anime.
The skepticism seems unwarranted when considering A-1’s track record with this very adaptation. Each major battle up until now has been treated with amazing choreography, smooth animation, and careful attention to detail. Therefore, there’s no reason to think Beru’s ominous presence will be any different.
The Jeju Island Raid Arc: A defining moment for Sung Jin-Woo
The Jeju Island Raid Arc is perhaps the most critical arc of the story in Solo Leveling, representing a dramatic change in power balance and character progression. The fourth Jeju Island raid is a do-or-die mission given to elite hunters from South Korea and Japan, with the goal of exterminating the deadly ants that have claimed the island.

This arc is where Sung Jin-Woo truly asserts his dominance, proving that his abilities far surpass even S-rank hunters. The highlight of the Jeju Island Raid Arc is the climactic battle between Jin-Woo and Beru, the strongest ant and arc’s main antagonist.
Beru, being a monstrous and intelligent creature, is much deadlier than the island’s other ants, having killed many elite hunters. His fighting skills, his pure speed, and his crushing strength render him a real threat, and Jin-Woo has to push himself to the limits to defeat him.
The recently released promotional video for Solo Leveling Season 2: Arise from the Shadow has teased this battle, promising jaw-dropping animation and intense action sequences. Although Beru starts off as the bad guy, manhwa fans already know that soon he is going to be one of Jin-Woo’s strongest subordinates in his Shadow Army.
With A-1 Pictures’ experience, it makes perfect sense to believe the studio will be doing justice to this fight, ensuring that Beru’s threat and Jin-Woo’s superiority are portrayed with the impact they deserve. So as Solo Leveling fans, instead of overanalyzing early footage, let’s just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Solo Leveling Season 2 is currently available to watch on Crunchyroll.
