It’s High Time We Accept These 3 Harsh Truth About Bleach

One of the Big Three anime, Tite Kubo’s Bleach, has been a fan-favorite since the day it was released way back in 2004. Although the series has faced a fair share of struggles, it has managed to make its place as one of the biggest stories in history, and even after so many years, it has held this title proudly, and it is only going to get better from here on.

However, having a fanbase as big as Bleach often results in fans developing an image about certain characters, plot structures, storylines, etc. These images are then developed into opinions, which are accepted by the masses and thus become a truth that everyone needs to accept about the story, no matter if it holds any grounds or not.

There are many such opinionated truths about Bleach that might not necessarily be true, but fans have accepted it because it is the way they wanted the story to be developed. But the reality of these truths is certainly different, and fans need to change their impression about these five facts within the Bleach storyline.

1. Kuchiki Byakuya should have died in Bleach

One of the most contentious aspects of the entire Bleach storyline is the return of Kuchiki Byakuya after he almost died in the first phase of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War arc. His battle against Äs Nödt was one of the biggest struggles he ever faced in the entire series, and he was indeed defeated.

However, his defeat was so devastating that many fans believed that Tite Kubo might have actually killed him. This was not at all accepted by fans, considering Byakuya was a fan-favorite character who was loved and appreciated by all. Thus, fans caused an uproar on the internet about Byakuya’s upcoming death, and thus, the Bleach mangaka had to reverse it.

He brought Byakuya back and introduced him in the story again. But his character then did not fit perfectly within the story. Thus, in some way, it would have been better if he had died after his battle with Äs Nödt as it would have given other characters like Ichigo a better sense of motivation.

2. Fans undervalue the quality of Renji’s character development

Bleach has a lot of significant characters who prove themselves useful in different arcs and storylines and thus become fan-favorites. However, Renji might be one of those characters who often gets sidelined and ignored by fans, no matter how significant they become to the narrative.

Renji is one of the few characters in Bleach who has consistently shown growth and has repeatedly proved his worth within the storyline. He has moved with the flow of the story and even challenged the main character in order to help him with his development.

Still, he gets ignored, and thus, fans need to realize that he is a better-written character than he is given credit for. His character development over the years has been one of the best, and while he might not have been overhyped within the Bleach narrative, he certainly is quite important.

3. Orihime’s entire character is centered around Ichigo

Although Orihime is one of the most significant characters in Bleach, her individual development is not a big deal for the story. She has been a useful character in many ways, but almost every aspect of her character is focused around Ichigo, and thus, she doesn’t really have any individuality.

Orihime is a fan-favorite character, and while she has her moments, it all ends up with how Ichigo’s character is going to be affected. She is the love interest who is constantly trying to win Ichigo’s approval and doesn’t care about what others think of her as long as Ichigo is fine with it.

This is, in some ways, toxic for her development, but maybe that was Kubo’s intention from the beginning of Bleach. Still, fans often hope for Orihime to have her own moment that is not at all defined by Ichigo’s character development and only focuses on her.

Bleach is available to watch on Hulu.
