One Punch Man Season 3 has been highly anticipated by the fans. Recently, the preview was released, and the Fall release has been confirmed. But fans are growing increasingly skeptical about its production since J.C. Staff has not won any praise from the fans after Season 2.

Madhouse did its magic on Season 1, and fans were bound to be disappointed with Season 2 (not to mention it was a mess), so the second chance that J.C. Staff gets might be the only opportunity through which they can redeem themselves.
With J.C. Staff at the helm again, the biggest concern remains whether it can meet the expectations of the fans after delaying the release for years. The key visual and cast members are not inspiring confidence either.
Madhouse proves it is the best with Frieren
Meanwhile, while J.C. Staff seems to be struggling with One Punch Man and other anime like Railgun, Madhouse is establishing its position as the hegemon of the anime industry.

With Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Madhouse has proved that it has one of the best direction, animation, and cast in the industry. It does not compromise and it can be seen in the sheer quality of Frieren’s Season 1. Season 2 is supposed to be released in January 2026 as well.

While Madhouse has continued to impress, J.C. Staff faces a unique problem. The reason why the first season of One Punch Man was so good was that it had an all-star cast. Not only did the director (who is a very prominent and famous one) call in some favors, but the animation producer was also a well-connected person.

Now that Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is the new project of Madhouse, they have acquired the best talents in the industry (including many who had worked on the first season of One Punch Man).
This makes it difficult for J.C. Staff to make a proper comeback. They will need to try extremely hard without experienced members to replicate (or at least try) the success of the first season.
One Punch Man’s future remains uncertain
That is why while Frieren is establishing itself as a top-tier anime thanks to its stunning animation and quality, One Punch Man fans have been delaying the inevitable until now, and the expectations of fans are falling by the day, being replaced by a feeling of dread instead.

The only people who could salvage and help One Punch Man anime make a comeback are all invested in Frieren. Shingo Natsume, who directed One Punch Man (2015) or the first season, was very disappointed with the quality of the second season. He could not make the second season due to scheduling clashes.

One of the key figures behind One Punch Man Season 1’s success was Yuichiro Fukushi, who has experience working with Marvel and is invested in Frieren. Things are looking more and more bleak for One Punch Man fans and J.C. Staff, as we can only hope for a miracle now.
With Fukushi and Saito both focusing on Frieren, it’s clear why it has excelled while One Punch Man’s future remains uncertain.
One Punch Man is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
