In 2006 film Little Children, she played an unhappy housewife who has an affair with her married neighbour.
Patrick Wilson, who portrayed Kate’s lover, revealed he’s “sure” she was left with bruises after a steamy scene.
The moment in question saw their characters share an intimate moment in a laundry room.
He told The Hollywood Reporter’s It Happened in Hollywood podcast: “[Kate] was so cool and gracious and just a gamer – just like, ‘Let’s go for it.
“There was never one awkward or weird moment. Never one. I loved it.”
Adding there were no body doubles used, Patrick said: “I’m sure there were lots of bruises.
“Put it this way, I haven’t done a scene like that since post #MeToo and intimacy coordinators.”
Directed by Todd Field, Little Children was based upon Tom Perrotta’s 2004 novel.
The film‘s positive reception saw Kate receive an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
It also starred the likes of Jennifer Connelly, Noah Emmerich and Jackie Earle Haley, the latter also being Oscar nominated.
Previously, Kate lifted the lid on a major Hollywood secret – and it quite literally stinks.
She appeared on Chris Evans‘ Virgin Radio show to promote her film Lee.
Her real life character – war photographer Lee Miller – spends a lot of time smoking cigarettes.
While there was a way around shooting the habit so it didn’t compromise Kate’s health – there was another rather nasty side effect.
Kate said: “They were herbal. They’re very strange things. They all smoked. I mean that was it, they were all smoking in that time.”

When Chris asked if the phrase ‘smoking take’ was used on set, she responded: “Yeah, ‘Light ‘em up’. That’s what they would say.
“If you got ‘em smoke ‘em and everyone has fake herbal [cigarettes].
“Herbal cigarettes actually don’t smell very nice. They sort of smell a little bit like burning poo, to be honest.
“So it’s a rather odd smell. But the smoke lingers in the air.”
