I’m a mum-of-9 & built my 20-year-old a tiny house at the bottom of the garden – now she gets ‘meals on wheels’ dinner

A MUM-OF-NINE has revealed how she made more space for her children by creating an outdoor tiny home.

Danielle, from the UK, took to social media to show off her 20-year-old daughter’s tiny home at the bottom of the garden.

The mum revealed she made the ‘granny annex’ after getting planning permission from the council and did most of the work with the help of her family.

She revealed she was ‘running out of room’ and wanted to give her second eldest child some privacy.

The incredible tiny home cost the mum £26,000 from start to finish and was kitted out with a fully working bathroom, large bedroom and walk-in wardrobe.

The walk-in wardrobe had built-in shelves and rails from top to bottom to make the most of the space.

To the left of the wardrobe was her daughter’s private bathroom kitted out with a shower, sink, and toilet and was designed with grey slate tiles for a modern look.

Her daughter also had a kettle and air fryer inside in case she wanted to make her own food, but the mum, of course, made her daughter dinner.

In a recent clip, the mum trekked over her garden to bring her daughter a warm bowl of beef stew.

She said: “Your daughter lives down the bottom of the garden so this is your nightly trek with her dinner.”

“Meals on wheels aka Uber Eats aka hotel service aka Just Eat,” joked Danielle.

Danielle built the house last year and said her daughter loves living in it.

The clip of her meals on wheels went viral on her TikTok account @thesymestribe with over 400k views and 5,800 likes.

People were quick to take to the comments in awe of the tiny home.

One person wrote: “My brother lives at end of the garden too and we have a doorbell to ding when his is ready!!”

Another commented: “Ooooo wish I had this set up.”

“I’d love this for myself!” penned a third.

Are tiny homes legal in the UK?

TINY houses can be in the UK regardless of whether they are on a trailer base or not. The legality of tiny houses is all to do with where it is and what you use it for.

According to Planning Geek, constructing a granny annexe in your garden usually means you’ll need planning permission, especially if it has a bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen.

This is because it’s seen as a separate living space rather than just an extension of your main home.

However, if you’re thinking about converting an existing outbuilding, like a garage, into a granny annexe or a tiny home, you might not need planning permission.

That said, it’s important to make sure the space doesn’t end up being a fully self-contained unit – for instance, if the converted area doesn’t include cooking facilities, it might not be classified as a separate dwelling.

It’s also worth noting that, while certain small outbuildings can be constructed under permitted development rights, the NAPC points out that this usually applies to structures like sheds or garages, rather than self-contained annexes.

According to The Tiny Housing, a tiny home on wheels must not exceed 2.55 meters in width to be road-legal in the UK. Also, with a standard car licence, the length cannot be more than seven meters.

While tiny homes offer an alternative living solution, they must comply with local planning and building regulations.

Always check with your local council to ensure compliance with all regulations.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “That is better than my house.”

“I want one too,” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “Girl has more room than I do.”
