Meghan Markle’s life with kids Prince Archie, 5 and Princess Lilibet, 3 might seem picture perfect. After all, the aspiring lifestyle mogul spent Valentine’s Day morning preparing the most wholesome and festive breakfast with her kids. While Prince Harry was at the Invictus Games, the trio made bagels topped with pink cream cheese and strawberries cut into hearts. It doesn’t get more Pinterest-worthy than that!
But that’s not what every morning looks like in the Sussex household.
The Duchess of Sussex recently sat down with People and explained a typical breakfast. She said Prince Harry and Archie both “love” fried eggs and that there’s “a lot of bacon” in their Montecito home. But she doesn’t sweat it if not every breakfast is hot, fresh, and/or elaborate.

“And then sometimes you don’t have time for all that,” she told the outlet, “and you just put a frozen waffle in the toaster and call it a day.”
“And there’s no shame in that either,” she continued, speaking to the masses who know how hard it is to get their kids out the door in the morning and sometimes have to give them a bowl of cereal or a breakfast pastry on the go.
When Archie isn’t eating his beloved fried eggs or a Valentine’s day-inspired bagel, you just might find him having a special meal with his mom. On weekends and school breaks, the mother-son duo go on “day dates.”
“Archie and I like to go and have lunch, share a burger and a Caesar salad, and have an ice cream sundae with two cherries on top,” she told People. How adorable is that? The two clearly have a sweet bond, and so is it really any wonder that Prince Archie gave his mom some priceless advice ahead of the release of her upcoming Netflix series, With Love, Meghan?
The Duchess revealed that one night, while answering emails about her series and the overhaul of her lifestyle brand, As ever, she was snuggled up with a sick Archie. He started to wake up and gave the budding entrepreneur some exceedingly important advice.
“[He said], ‘Mama, don’t work too hard,’” Markle said. “It was the sweetest thing.”
Don’t work too hard. He knew his mom needed to rest and needed to protect herself from burnout. And so even if she can’t seem to drag herself away from her email and her projects, at least she’s keeping that advice in mind when preparing meals for her family. Sometimes you only have the bandwidth for a frozen waffle, and we have to give it up for Markle for recognizing that that’s OK!
