But now Tony Bellew has landed another project away from his boxing career.

Tony, 43, will front a brand new podcast series for BBC Sounds called Hooligans.

Produced by BBC Five Live, the former boxer will explore the rise and fall of violence in football and the socioeconomic factors that led to its peak.

Speaking about the new six-part series, Tony said: “Back then, there were no rules. There were also weapons. It was mayhem.

“In my opinion, it was a dark time, it was when football was in a really, really bad place. The terraces were chaos, there was violence in the streets, there was violence in city centres, at train stations, at grounds. Nobody was safe, things could escalate at any moment.”

Tony continued: “What people misunderstand about hooliganism is that it was born out of frustration.

“What I’ve learnt through doing this podcast is that these people were doctors, they were solicitors, they came from all different walks of life, and they go to these matches and have fights with other fans to escape their day-to-day lives.”

Tony will be joined throughout the series by former footballer and broadcaster Pat Nevin, Radio DJ Trevor Nelson and TV presenter Nick Owen.

Dad-of-four Tony finished as the runner-up to Sam Thompson on I’m A Celebrity in 2023.

Prior to his reality TV fame, he was a professional boxer and former WBC world cruiserweight champion.

Since walking away from the ring as a fighter, Bellew has regularly worked as an analyst and commentator for DAZN, TalkSPORT and other outlets.

The Gangster Presents: Hooligans boxset launches on BBC Sounds on Friday 7th March.
