Bleach: Mayuri Gave Us the Cruelest Scene to the Worst Arrancar but Tite Kubo Needs to Come Full Circle for Bleach’s Mad Genius

Tite Kubo’s Bleach has a lot of dark and gruesome moments and most of them involve Mayuri Kurotsuchi, the captain of the 12th Division of the Gotei 13 and 2nd president of the Shinigami Research Institute. Mayuri is one of the most grim characters of the Bleach storyline and his various battles within the series are the perfect proof of that.

Among those battles, the cruelest and darkest battle that Mayuri had been a part of was against Szayelaporro Granz, the eighth Espada in Sosuke Aizen’s Arrancar army in Bleach. The fight established Mayuri’s image as one of the darkest captains in the history of Soul Society. However, there was one aspect of the battle that Bleach fans might have overlooked.

This aspect was the similarity in the personalities of Mayuri and Szayelaporro as scientists. This similarity was also reflected in the latest season of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, when Mayuri was fighting Pernida Parnkgjas. Thus, if Kubo also brings an end to Mayuri’s character in the same way as he did with Szayeloporro, it will add a full circle moment to the Bleach storyline.

The similarities between Mayuri and Szayeloporro in Bleach

Since the beginning of Bleach, Mayuri has portrayed himself as a mad scientist who is obsessed with experimentation and research. This portrayal also added a bleak and cruel aspect to his personality, which became a part of his daily life. Not only that, the Bleach storyline has also reflected multiple times that he has no regard for the lives of others as long as his motives and missions are accomplished.

The same was the case for Szayeloporro when he was alive and a member of Sosuke Aizen’s arrancar army. He was a self-absorbed, egoistic scientist who believed that his research, his experiments, and his inventions were better than everything else. In fact, he carried this impression until the very end when he was killed by Mayuri.

Both of them were exactly similar in terms of research, experimentation, and obsession with science. However, the only difference between the two was that Szayeloporro wanted to attain perfection, and Mayuri hated the idea of creating something perfect as it leaves nothing more to strive for, which was one of the reasons why he was able to take down Szayeloporro in Bleach.

Tite Kubo needs to create a full circle moment with Mayuri’s character

When Mayuri and Szayeloporro faced each other during the invasion of Hueco Mundo in Bleach, both of them showcased their immense powers and their unique experimentations that made them formidable in battle. They refused to give up against each other, but ultimately, Mayuri managed to outsmart him and gave him a cruel death.

Szayeloporro ingested a drug within his body while he was using Nemu against Mayuri. This drug slowed him down to the point where he perceived every second as one hundred years. Thus, when Mayuri stabbed him with his Zanpakuto, Szayeloporro saw it in slow motion and felt the pain of getting stabbed slowly while he was already stabbed and killed in real time.

It was truly one of the cruelest deaths in the history of Bleach, and considering the fact that both Mayuri and Szayeloporro are similar, Tite Kubo needs to plan something similar for Mayuri too. It will add a full-circle moment to his character and bring a perfect ending to his individual plot in the Bleach narrative.

Bleach is available to watch on Hulu.
