Scott McTominay has impressed for the Naples side this season and celebrated the equaliser against Inter passionately[/caption]
It was Gilmour‘s first league start for the Azzurri since November, with some Napoli fans surprised that Antonio Conte threw the midfielder in for such an important match.
But Conte was rewarded as Gilmour turned in an impressive showing before being substituted late on with cramp.
The Scot’s replacement Philip Billing hit a late equaliser for the Naples outfit, keeping them a point behind Inter in the standings.
And Napoli fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to praise Gilmour’s display and demand the Scotland star receives more playtime.
One fan said: “Gilmour should be in every 11 from here on out, the guy’s insane.”
A second said: “Gilmour is the only player in the squad with pinpoint accuracy, he verticalizes like few others.
“Today he played as an all-rounder and for me, he will also be there against Fiorentina, along with [Stanislav] Lobotka and McTominay.
“Experiment successful – he needs more space, the future of the Azzurri.”
A third commented: “Gilmour is a very serious player, one of the few in the squad who has half an inventiveness to him.”
McTominay also completed the full 90 minutes as he continued his impressive season.
The midfielder has won many admirers in the Napoli fanbase, with one fan even hanging up a banner in the 28-year-old’s honour.
