The legal drama Suits was a rage when it first aired and then had a revival after being syndicated to Netflix. The incredible zingers, swagger of fan-favorite characters like Harvey Specter, Louis Litt, and others, and the procedural style of the series clicked with audiences beyond ages and has even led to a spinoff series, Suits L.A.
The flagship show centered around Patrick J. Adams’ Mike Ross, who cons his way into the role of an associate at a huge law firm in New York, with the only person being privy to his lie being his immediate boss Harvey Specter. The show is built around this premise and fans have still raged about whether Mike was in the right or in the wrong.
Mike Ross’ con still sparks debates among Suits fans

Patrick J. Adams’ Mike Ross was the heart of Suits. A scrappy young adult who has made some mistakes for the sake of others and has faced consequences, Ross decides to make a mistake for himself for the first time and sets off a ticking time bomb. However, he has a Batman-like protector in Harvey Specter (though he may not agree with that analogy).
Ross gets many close calls and he finally faces the ramifications of his actions when he gets arrested. It is one of the biggest vulnerabilities of the character that is well hidden but is always going to be weaponized by an enemy. He eventually faces some prison time and then passes the bar, legitimizing his claim as a lawyer.

Apart from the whole illegal elephant in the room regarding this issue, the treatment of Mike Ross’ lie gives way to many justifications but also guilt. He is constantly berated by his girlfriend Rachel (Meghan Markle) initially for lying about his degree and then even faces some spiritual guilt over his lie. However, fans are not united on whether he was wrong.
While Mike does good things as a lawyer and often moral polices even Harvey to do the right thing and clashes with him, his whole foundation being built on a lie makes him a grey character. He has also made several mistakes in the past, such as impersonating at the LSAT exams and dealing dr*gs with his friend Trevor.
Patrick J. Adams knew Mike Ross was wrong and was waiting for him to face the music

Until season 5, Mike Ross has constantly been vulnerable to being outed about his lack of a Harvard law (or any for that matter) degree. While the lie gives him a way to escape his life of joblessness and dr*g dealing, it also turns into an ego-boost of sorts and gives him a very Catch Me If You Can vibe.
However, actor Patrick J. Adams was reportedly looking forward to getting caught and finally seeing how he and the Pearson Hardman team deals with this as they have to convince the world they were right even when they were wrong (a typical day in the life of lawyers). Adams told EW,
It couldn’t be more exciting. It’s like graduating high school or something. I’ve been waiting for a long time for us to sort of take things to the next level and to see what this character does when he’s finally forced to answer for what he’s done.
While Mike eventually gets away with a reduced sentence and legitamizes his degree, he finally faces the consequences of his actions and loses his swanky job at the firm.
Suits is available to stream on Peacock.
