Mahama’s SONA was inaccurate – NPP to present ‘proper’ SONA on March 4

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to deliver what it calls the True State of the Nation Address on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, as a response to President John Dramani Mahama’s recent address.

According to the NPP, Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27 failed to provide an accurate picture of Ghana’s current situation.

“President Mahama’s address failed to provide a full and accurate assessment of the nation’s trajectory since assuming office on January 7, 2025,” the statement, signed by NPP National Chairman Stephen Ntim, read.

The party highlighted several issues they claim Mahama ignored, including worsening power supply, security challenges, rising illegal mining activities, and an employment crisis.

The NPP argued that these challenges were “conspicuously absent” from the president’s address, despite their impact on Ghanaians.

In light of this, the party’s leadership in Parliament, led by Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, will present an alternative address to provide what they describe as a more factual and objective account of the country’s condition.

“We remain committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and responsible governance,” the statement concluded.
