Ireland to be hotter than parts of Spain as Met Eireann reveals ‘high pressure to dominate’ in big switch

IRELAND is set to be warmer than parts of Spain next week as “high pressure dominates” bringing “a good deal of dry weather”.

And Met Eireann reckon milder temperatures of 13C are on the way – making the country warmer than parts of Spain.

Areas of holiday hotspots Costa Del Sol and Alicante are expected to dip as low as 10C over the coming days.

The good news comes after Ireland was battered by unsettled weather, including torrential downpours, harsh freezing temperatures and windy conditions over the last few weeks.

However, before we finally enjoy warmer weather, Ireland is set to experience one more cold blast as temperatures drop to -1°C overnight.

Met Éireann’s Michelle Dillon added: “It will become relatively settled up to and including the middle of next week at least.

“With a good deal of dry weather, it will become a little milder too.

“That’s as high pressure dominates.”

This weekend, this afternoon will see some outbreaks of rain moving slowly southeast across East Ulster, Leinster and Munster.

Some sunny spells will follow into Connacht and west Ulster.

Temperatures will reach highs of 7 to 11°C with a light to moderate variable breeze during the afternoon, before dropping to a chilly -1 to 4°C overnight, with some frost and ice.

On Sunday morning, the frost, ice, mist and fog will clear, leaving dry weather conditions and some sunny spells.

The highest temperatures will be 9 to 11°C with light to moderate south to southwest winds.

Milder temperatures

Monday is expected to be cloudier with some patchy light rain and drizzle, particularly in the north and west, with highs of 10 to 12°C.

She added: “Tuesday and Wednesday will be dry in many areas, with only a little patchy light rain and drizzle, mainly in the north and northwest.”

“There will be sunny spells at times, mainly in the east and south, with highs of 10 to 13°C.”

However, she warned that unsettled weather conditions may return by Thursday or Friday, with a risk of heavy, possibly thundery showers and rain.

However, the timing is uncertain, meaning it could arrive earlier or later in the week.
