Drogheda and Galway Utd preserve unbeaten starts in Premier Division as Killian Brouder salvages draw for FAI Cup champs

DROGHEDA unveiled a swanky bar at Sullivan & Lambe Park last night, including their very own ‘Drogs Beer’.

There was no need to drown their sorrows though as the hosts and Galway maintained their unbeaten starts to the season.

The Drogs have raised the bar in recent months, switching to full-time football following their FAI Cup success.

Killian Brouder’s second-half goal meant Kevin Doherty’s side and Galway shared the spoils.

Home captain Ryan Brennan scored his first league goal in 18 months to put United in front at the break. Warren Davis had earlier gone close.

Galway looked dangerous at the other end as the in-form Patrick Hickey twice let fly from distance.

Meanwhile, Bobby Burns met Jeannot Esua’s cross with a sweet volley but it fell the wrong side of the post.

John Caulfield’s team were still on a high after beating St Patrick’s Athletic last week but Drogheda had swept aside Sligo in their last outing.

When Brennan headed in Conor Kane’s lofted cross at the back post, home fans figured they might be in for another special night.

It could have got even better but Conor Keeley was twice denied in quick succession after the break as Hickey and Esua made crucial blocks in the area.

That provided the platform for Brouder to level.

He broke free at the back post and from Burns’ corner, made a connection and his shot hit the roof of the net.

Caulfield emptied his bench, making five changes before Doherty made one.

It looked more likely that the visitors would score late on.

But when substitute Thomas Oluwa won a free-kick deep into Galway’s final third in injury time, Drogheda might have snatched it but nothing came from the set-piece.
