FromSoftware has a legacy of throwing at players the hardest video game bosses the gaming world has ever seen. The studio is also working on bringing its old bosses back in the upcoming Elden Ring Nightreign, and there could be no other perfect opportunity than this to bring back this one enemy from the Dark Souls trilogy.
Dark Souls 3’s Sister Friede is a three-phase boss whose name alone sends shivers down the spines of those who are experienced with the Soulsborne genre. Having this boss again in Nightreign would mean having nightmares all over again, but that is exactly what makes the game worth playing in the first place.

For those who have never played Dark Souls 3, Sister Friede is literally one of FromSoftware’s most sadistic bosses. She is ultimately the last enemy in the game’s Ashes of Ariendel DLC, and the battle starts looking simple enough, seeming like a one-on-one duel.
However, it is after the first phase that everything starts spiraling horribly. In the second phase, Father Friede joins in on the fun and really starts thrashing the player, and if they are somehow able to make it out, then a final third phase awaits with even more difficulty.
Each phase elevates the difficulty, forcing players to adapt or get eliminated. It’s this pressure that keeps mounting up that starts seeming like a slow, painful descent into madness, perfectly defining the Soulsborne experience. And it is weirdly exactly what Elden Ring Nightreign needs.
Old bosses and fundamentals of Elden Ring: The perfect combo
FromSoftware thrives on pushing players to their limits, and with Elden Ring Nightreign, expectations couldn’t be higher. The game already has a list of some of the most memorable boss fights ever made by the studio, but Sister Friede seemingly looks like the one last piece of the puzzle that would end up making the game feel worth it.
Apart from Sister Friede, the list of confirmed bosses making their way back from the Dark Souls trilogy includes the likes of The Nameless King, the Centipede Demon, and more. Even notorious faces from the original Elden Ring are making their way back, like Margit the Fell Demon.
With so many foes making their way back into the modern day, players deserve a friendly face too. Which is precisely why introducing the Great Grey Wolf Sif as an ally this time around could be the best thing FromSoftware can do right now.
