“Picard would want Skywalker on his crew”: Patrick Stewart Has Always Wanted Mark Hamill in Star Trek, 1 Role is Perfect For Him

Patrick Stewart is an icon of the sci-fi genre thanks to his portrayal of Jean-Luc Picard in the sci-fi series Star Trek: The Next Generation. In 2020, Stewart appeared alongside Star Wars icon Mark Hamill in a promotional campaign for Uber Eats. In a discussion regarding the campaign, Stewart bounced around ideas for a crossover between the two sci-fi properties.

During the chat, Stewart revealed how his character would react to Mark Hamill appearing in the Star Trek universe. In the process, Stewart might have shared a great idea for Hamil’s debut in the sci-fi series, and it needs to happen. Here is what Stewart had to say about Hamill potentially appearing in the Star Trek franchise.

Actor Patrick Stewart first appeared as Captain Jean-Luc Picard when Star Trek: The Next Generation premiered in 1987. During the 80s, the television franchise competed with the Star Wars films, with both properties pushing the boundaries of sci-fi storytelling.

During an interview with Men’s Journal, Stewart and Star Wars actor Mark Hamill discussed how they felt about the supposed competition between the two IPs. Stewart admitted that he would personally get a kick out of Hamill appearing in the Star Trek universe.

I would think that Picard would want Skywalker on his crew, but would be sure to keep a careful eye on him.

Stewart made the above comment, admitting that he was keen on exploring ideas for the two universes to cross over.

Furthermore, Stewart suggested that Hamill’s Luke Skywalker could appear in Star Trek. Since competing studios own the IPs, a direct crossover is unlikely. However, the veteran actor’s comments set the foundation for Hamill to appear as a part of one popular Star Trek alien race.

Patrick Stewart’s comments make an interesting case for Hamill to appear in Star Trek, playing a villainous version of the former’s character. During the events of Dominion War established in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, it was revealed that the Changelings had infiltrated Starfleet.

The subplot was later revisited in some episodes of Star Trek: Picard, which saw Stewart reprise his iconic role. Therefore, having Hamill play a changeling pretending to be Picard to manipulate events and set up the Starfleet’s downfall could make a lot of sense.

Hamill has already proven he is capable of playing villains, with roles in DC Comics-related properties. Moreover, it would be fun to see Hamill’s evil take on Picard while Stewart will have to match the former’s energy in scenes where he is playing the impersonator. Therefore, it will give both the veterans a real challenge in terms of their performance, making for a fun crossover episode without getting into any complex IP-related issues.

The Star Trek shows and movies are streaming on Paramount+.
