The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Saad Abubakar, has directed all Muslims to begin the search for the new moon of Ramadan 1446AH on Friday and report any sighting to the nearest District or Village Head for onward communication. A statement issued in Sokoto on Thursday, February 27, by the Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, read: This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Friday, 28th February 2025, which is equivalent to the 29th day of Shaaban 1446AH, shall be the day to look for the new moon of Ramadan 1446AH. The statement also included prayers for Allahs guidance in helping Muslims peacefully and successfully observe the religious duty of fasting during Ramadan.
