Sources say the head coach was seen with ‘blood pouring’ from his nose following the attack

The horror unfolded after tempers flared between the management team of Ardeer Thistle during their pre-match warm up against Thorn Athletic in Johnstone, Renfrewshire.

In the video the assistant coach, wearing a hat, and the head coach with the bald head and dark tracksuit, can be seen in a tense exchange.

The head coach then walks away before his assistant follows him and the men square up to each other.

The head coach then steps away and again the coach in the hat follows him before their heated words boil over and he headbutts him in the face.

One Ardeer player wearing a yellow training bib can be seen blocking the assistant coach while other players move in to calm the situation.

The 10 second clip is believed to have been captured by the Thorn Athletic camera used for post-match analysis.

It’s understood the coach who attacked the other has apologised over his actions and has since resigned from his role at the club.

The footage was captured on a camera used by Thorn Athletic for match analysis.

Despite the distressing incident Ayrshire-based Ardeer Thistle went on to clinch a 3-0 victory in the game.

A source told the Daily Record: “It happened really early in the warm-up, so there weren’t many fans in the ground.

“Nobody other than the players really saw it. Thorn staff noticed one of the coaches coming off the park with blood coming from his nose.

“We were told he’d been hit by a ball so didn’t think anything of it. Everyone was shocked when the footage emerged.

“The incident certainly didn’t put any of the Ardeer players off. They were right up for the game and it was an impressive away win.”

Another source added: “The incident is believed to have happened over a disagreement about the pre-match warm-up.

“It got out of hand and resulted in what appeared in the video.

“There was nothing else to it, no before or afters. Emotions were running high and it got out of hand but it was over in a flash.

“They know it shouldn’t have happened but they’re passionate guys and care about the game.”

A third source confirmed the attacking coach had resigned saying: “He is really sorry he lost his cool and that what happened, happened.

“He has apologised to the other coach and club and has resigned over it.”

Ardeer Thistle declined to comment when approached by The Scottish Sun.

The West of Scotland Football League have been contacted for comment.
