One Piece is often celebrated to be one of the best Shonen series in existence while Black Clover stands shyly outside the frame. But popularity alone isn’t the game, and Black Clover is more developed in fields that One Piece has ignored for a bit too long.
Sure, donning pink feathers and pink glasses and still looking intimidating is hard to achieve. But that alone doesn’t make Doflamingo the perfect antagonist. In fact, one Black Clover character has the potential to overthrow Doflamingo’s reign.
Black Clover‘s one anti-hero is everything Doflamingo could ever dream of being

Zora Ideale is one of the most popular characters in Black Clover, and for good reason. Fans enjoy how Ideale is disrespectful to everyone regardless of social class. Be it a random Magic Knight or the Wizard King himself, Zora’s mouth never shuts up. He can do anything to get to his means as long as he finds them suitable.
But that does not mean Zora lacks a moral compass. Unlike Doflamingo, Zora tries to achieve what is right via controversial means. While Zora fights corruption and exposes injustice, Doflamingo embraces tyranny in all its glory. The One Piece character prefers to rule by using fear to his advantage.
Zora uses some of the most ruthless tactics; after all, he stands for justice and fairness. Doflamingo? He runs on cruelty and manipulation like coffee addicts can’t live without their daily dosage.
Why Zora from Black Clover completely eclipses Doflamingo

Black Clover gave Zora a realistic character growth arc. He has his own trauma, and the series shows how he overcame them by taking out corrupt Magic Knights. He eventually evolves beyond his hatred by learning to trust others. However, One Piece might have given Doflamingo a tragic past, but he never learned to overcome it and slowly became consumed by his hatred and villainous ways.
Zora is the true underdog in Black Clover. He was once a commoner who became witness to the cruelty of those in power. He put in the effort to rise to power and dominate those who he found disgusting. He proved that strength came from effort. Doflamingo, on the other hand, was born a Celestial Dragon. His father gave up the position, but he never left his entitled ways.

In Black Clover, Zora challenges the system and not the people. He fights for a better world, even though his methodology could be twisted at times. He exposes the flaws in the system and those who have dabbled in corruption. Doflamingo seeks power alone. He isn’t a revolutionary but rather a tyrant who craves for power and complete control.
The Black Clover and One Piece manga are available to read on Viz Media and the anime are currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
