Martin Amidu has called on President John Mahama to take immediate action in investigating alleged financial irregularities at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), describing the situation as an “economic crime scene.”
The former Attorney General and Special Prosecutor accused the current Special Prosecutor, William Kissi Agyebeng, of supervising suspected payroll fraud and other unlawful appointments at the institution.
According to Amidu, the only way for President Mahama to disprove his claims is to conduct “an impartial investigation into the OSP’s unlawful appointments and payroll fraud to prove to Ghanaians that I am wrong in my presentations on the matter.”
He cautioned that failing to address these allegations would undermine Mahama’s anti-corruption stance, stating, “President Mahama, if you fail to deal with the unconstitutional and unlawful appointments and payroll fraud at the OSP, your rhetoric to fight corruption would have been dead on arrival in your first month of assuming office.”
The former Special Prosecutor also raised concerns over Agyebeng’s absence from duty, claiming he had gone “AWOL from 7 August 2024 for four months” due to the controversial Airbus-SE-Ghana corruption investigation report.
Amidu suggested that this should not be a reason for Mahama to hesitate in taking action, urging him to “crack the whip to recover all loot from the OSP and earn the nation’s respect this time round in your second tenure.”
Amidu, who has been vocal on issues of corruption in public office, expressed his willingness to support any genuine effort by Mahama to clean up the system.
“Mr. President, I will stand by you all the way in any genuine endeavour by you to fight corruption in Ghana. We can only achieve this by Putting Ghana First!”
